Sed The Saint [Mobile Monday Spotlight]

This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight shines on Sed Joseph, also known as Sed The Saint and Founder & CEO of StageWing.

Sed The Saint is this week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday spotlight. Sed Joseph is the founder & CEO of StageWing, and we brightly shine our Mobile Monday spotlight on the DJ, Sed The Saint, hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana, before attending college in Atlanta, Georgia.

Discussing what being a mobile DJ means to Sed, we also chat about current DJ setup vs. ideal DJ setup, favorite gear, some of the biggest pros and cons of being a mobile DJ, biggest pet peeves, and most important life lessons learned thus far as a DJ. Sed reveals, “The most important lesson I’ve learned is the power of music to connect people. It’s a universal language that can transcend boundaries.”

When DJ LIFE spoke with Sed Joseph regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…

DJ LIFE: What does being a mobile DJ mean to you?

Sed: Being a mobile DJ is more than just playing music; it’s freedom to move around, explore new spaces, venues and meet different groups of people consistently. I love the freedom to shape the vibe of any event, anywhere. It’s a privilege to connect with people through music and make their moments unforgettable.

DJ LIFE: Can you tell us about your current DJ setup? What would your perfect or dream setup look like?

Sed: Right now, I’m rocking a Rane Four controller, a Shure mic, and a pair of QSC K12.2s. This setup gives me the flexibility and power I need to deliver dynamic performances. My dream setup would include wireless battery-powered speakers from Audios, a diverse collection of vinyl records for my 1200s and a sexy state-of-the-art lighting rig.

DJ LIFE: Do you have any favorite or new gear that you’re currently using?

Sed: I’m really digging my new Jrumz in-ear monitors. I picked them up at the DJX Show 2024, and they’ve been a game-changer. They were designed by an audiologist, so the sound quality is incredible, and they’re super comfortable for long sets.

DJ LIFE: What are some of the biggest pros and cons of being a mobile DJ?

Sed: The biggest pros are the flexibility and creative freedom. I can set my own schedule and express myself through music. The cons can be long hours, inevitable technical difficulties, and dealing with unpredictable crowds, and weekends away from friends and family.

DJ LIFE: Do you have any DJ-related pet peeves?

Sed: Oh, absolutely! One of my biggest pet peeves is hearing a song that’s fallen off-beat in a blend. It’s like nails on a chalkboard to me. It can completely ruin the vibe of a set. Beatmatching the first rule I teach all of my DJ students.

DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?

Sed: Growing up in New Orleans, surrounded by a musically inclined family, especially my grandfather, Frog Joseph, a jazz pioneer and legend, has deeply influenced my love for music. Being a DJ has allowed me to honor that legacy while forging my own path. My DJ journey began in college near Atlanta. I started spinning at parties and events with my friend DJ Wilbe. A few years later, we added DJ D LaShae to the group, and we’ve been making magic together ever since.

DJ LIFE: What is the most important life lesson you have gained from your experience as a DJ?

Sed: The most important lesson I’ve learned is the power of music to connect people. It’s a universal language that can transcend boundaries. I saw it when I would visit my grandfather’s and father’s shows as a little girl and now as a DJ, I have the privilege of using that power to create unforgettable moments and bring people together.
