This week’s #MobileMonday showcase is on DJ JAS, Justin Stern, of DJ JAS Productions. When we caught up with Justin, he let us know about his DJ setup, as well as what being a mobile DJ means to him:
“I offer an invaluable experience from start to finish. Being a mobile DJ requires much more than just delivering a killer set. I feel it’s important to make the client feel special and understood, which helps determine the overall success of the entertainment and event. No two events are the same, so I take great interest in understanding what it is the clients want, even if they are not sure at first what that is. My relationship with my clients can feel like long-time friends, and I am often told I am their favorite vendor to work with. I am genuinely excited to DJ and be a part of each event, and spend months working together to bring their vision to life. Creating this type of trusting relationship ensures this is a fun experience not only on the event day, but also leading up to it.
My preferred DJ setup consists of two turntables and a mixer, housed in custom DJ furniture with exposed wood. It is simple, yet elegant, and can blend into any venue. All the wires are custom tucked underneath, and all my other audio equipment is racked below. This means I don’t need a separate table, facade, or cover to hide any unsightly wires and objects. Everything is contained within the furniture and can be set up in less than 15 minutes.
One of my favorite pieces of equipment that often gets overlooked is my Shure wireless setup. Not only does Shure offer some of the best microphone systems for DJs, but they can also reliably send audio wirelessly to another speaker, with no loss of quality or signal. Nearly every gig, I use an additional satellite speaker or add separate zones for my main speakers and can count on Shure Wireless QLXD to deliver rock-solid performance. This also allows me to be more flexible in tough-to-set-up venues with multiple spaces or large and awkward-shaped rooms. Running a 100ft XLR cable just isn’t ideal most of the time, not to mention can be time-consuming when every minute counts.”
