Skrillex Surprise Drops Two New Albums Amid Sold-Out MSG Show, NYC Pop-Ups

Skrillex surprised dropped two brand new albums, ahead of and during his sold-out MSG show with Fred Again.. & Four Tet this weekend.

It’s been quite a busy week for Skrillex, who is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in electronic music. In what turned out to be an action-packed weekend in NYC, Skrillex managed to drop not one, but two brand new albums (within the span of two days), perform a sold-out show at MSG, and several surprise pop-up showcases. So, here’s a bit more about how it all went down…

Skrillex took to social media last week to announce he would be playing a show at Madison Square Garden along with Fred Again.. and Four Tet. The surprise announcement had the dance music community in a frenzy. Even with the extremely short notice, the show managed to sell out in just minutes. The trio then made it known they would be playing a 5-hour set together at the World’s Most Famous Arena. Using the hashtag “#omgmsg” on socials, amid the madness of what was to come from The Garden show alone, the guys then decided to perform several last minute (and even unannounced pop-ups), throughout the city.

As if the New York City mayhem wasn’t enough – Skrillex announced he would be dropping an album, Quest For Fire, on Friday, February 17. Available now through OWSLA/Atlantic Records, Quest For Fire serves up listeners with 15-track LP, taking them back to Skrillex’s roots. Among the artists joining Skrillex on Quest For Fire are Missy Elliott, Fred Again.., Four Tet, Porter Robinson, Aluna, Kito, Swae Lee, BEAM, Noisia, Josh Pan, PEEKABOO, and Bibi Bourelly, just to name a few. Quest For Fire also includes an ode to Sonny’s From First To Last days, as track 11, titled “Warped Tour ’05 with pete WENTZ,” takes us back to the early days with a sentimental moment. See the full track listing, and listen to Skrillex Quest For Fire, here:

Fast forward to Saturday night’s sold-out event at MSG. As the guys transformed the arena into a giant rave, Skrillex announced that he had just surprise-dropped his second album in just two days. The 12-track ensemble, Don’t Get Too Close, falls on the more pop-leaning and mainstream side of Skrillex’s sound. Let’s just say: the hits just keep on coming. Don’t Get Too Close is a no-skip LP, serving up one track even better than the next. Some of those included on the 12-track studio album are the likes of Justin Bieber, Kid Cudi, Pink Panteress, Bobby Raps, BEAM, Don Toliver, Swae Lee, Trippie Redd, Yung Lean, Bladee, Anthony Green, Corbin, Bibi Bourelly, and more. See the full track listing, and listen to Don’t Get Too Close, below:

From a sold-out Madison Square Garden spectacle to two brand new albums within a 2-day span, let’s dive a bit deeper into the mind-blowing pop-ups throughout the Big Apple. The NYC excursion for Skrillex, Fred again.., and Four Tet began on Feb. 14 with a Valentine’s Day pop up show at Good Room. Thursday, Feb. 16, just several hours prior to doors opening, the trio announced an intimate pop-up show at Le Poisson Rouge (LPR). The final pop-up performance leading up to their MSG show took place on a bus from The Lot Radio in the middle of Times Square (see video from the Times Square pop-up, below).
