Paul Oakenfold Tour Diary Week 5: As football fans gathered for the opening of the World Cup, Oakie was anticipating the remainder of his United Champions Tour.
Dallas – After we flew into Mexico City this past week, I was really looking forward to the rest of the shows on our United Champions Tour – and, of course, the opening of the World Cup. The town was full of football fans from around the world, celebrating the third time the World Cup has been held in Mexico’s capital city.

I remember Brazil winning the World Cup here in 1970. I also remember Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal for Argentina against England in 1986. This ground is steeped in World Cup history and a fitting place for the opening game.
And what a day it was, with Mexico winning 2-0 over South Africa. The streets were full of green, white and red. We hit a few bars and ended up at my favorite restaurant, La Unica, for dinner.
Mexico City has always been one of my favorite cities to visit and play. I love the culture, food, and people. See you next time.

Took a flight straight to Dallas, and I’m currently here writing this, getting ready for when the English team arrives in town. I will be at the game, and can’t wait to see England play Croatia on Wednesday afternoon. After the game, I’ll be playing at SILO Dallas. Come and join us!
