The unexpected yet wildly fun collab “Does Your Father Know You Dance Like That?” blends festival energy with stand-up comedy for a fresh cultural moment.
In a delightful yet unexpected collision of EDM spectacle meets comedic swag, world-renowned DJ/producer Steve Aoki and comedian Sebastian Maniscalco have unleashed their new single “Does Your Father Know You Dance Like That?” – a track that’s equal parts dance anthem and laugh-out-loud nightlife commentary.
Fresh off Aoki’s explosive return to Ultra Music Festival in Miami last weekend, the song marries high-energy electronic production with Maniscalco’s signature observational humor. The official music video amps up the fun even further, showcasing the duo tearing through a high-octane night out in Las Vegas. From impromptu hotel room dance-offs to a packed live set that blurs the line between club show, spectacle, and comedy set, watch the video, below.
The origins of this unforeseen collab are just as fun as the song itself. Maniscalco first premiered the comedic dance track during Justin Bieber’s Halloween live stream last fall, quickly catching the ear of Bieber himself, who enthusiastically predicted the song would “pop off in Ibiza.” Produced with the help of PARISI and GRAMMY-nominated songwriter and producer Freddy Wexler, the track found its way to Aoki, who added his signature soaring drops and dance floor sensibilities to bring the concept fully to life.
“Sebastian is one of the funniest people I’ve ever met and this collab was all about bringing that into the club. I knew I wanted to do it in an authentic way though, so it only made sense to work with Parisi on the track, who I’m also a huge fan of. It’s fun, unexpected, and perfect for the dancefloor.” – Steve Aoki
Inspired by Maniscalco’s teenage nights at Chicago clubs and the joyfully absurd rituals of prepping for a Friday out, the track takes playful jabs at today’s nightlife – from indoor sunglasses, table sparklers, and too many people huddled over one bottle of Grey Goose at the table – all wrapped in a contagious hook.
In recent months, another major cultural moment unfolded thanks to viral sketch impersonations of Maniscalco, notably the viral performances by Saturday Night Live breakout cast member Marcello Hernandez. Maniscalco has publicly embraced the attention, celebrating how the skits highlight the universal humor in his observations about everyday life and behavior, which especially includes the very human awkwardness of dancing in public. Marcello has revived the character on SNL due to popular demand during season 51.
“I’ve been dancing to other people’s music for years. Now I finally have a song of my own to move to. Collaborating with Steve Aoki made it even more special. He brought so much energy and creativity to the song and, apparently, to my social calendar too. He’s had me out promoting this thing in nightclubs until 3 o’clock in the morning, which is a real change for me. I think the last time I was out that late was 2009.” – Sebastian Maniscalco
Both artists are riding high on significant momentum, including Aoki’s catalog nearing billions of streams, being recognized as one of the world’s most in-demand entertainers, and let’s not forget – the recent celebrations commemorating 30 massive years of his Dim Mak Records imprint. Maniscalco recently led one of the highest-grossing comedy tours of all time and scored Hulu’s No. 1 special with It Ain’t Right.
