This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight, presented by QSC, shines on Marcus Jewett (aka DJ Marco Polo) from Austin, Texas.
Marcus “DJ Marco Polo” Jewett is this week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday spotlight. Presented by QSC, Jewett is a mobile DJ of DJ Marco Polo Entertainment, based out of Austin, Texas. Marcus Jewett’s journey as DJ Marco Polo is a story of passion rediscovered. After getting his start as a teenager on Houston radio, he moved into broadcasting before life pulled him temporarily away from DJing. Twenty-five years later, he returned to the craft with renewed purpose, investing in pro-level gear, learning modern technology, and re-establishing himself in the industry.
Today, he brings his talent to weddings, corporate events, private celebrations, and large conferences, where he assuredly delivers polished, high-energy experiences that reflect his lifelong dedication to music. As a mobile DJ, Marcus sees his work as a calling rooted in connection, emotion, and the shared energy of a great event. Supported by his wife Diana, who serves as his bilingual MC and operations manager, he approaches each event with a commitment to excellence. With a premium QSC-driven setup and an eye toward elevating every performance, DJ Marco Polo continues to build a brand that’s defined by professionalism, passion, and genuine human connection.

When DJ LIFE spoke with Jewett regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…
DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?
Marcus Jewett: My DJ journey began back in high school in Houston, Texas, when I was invited to participate in local radio segments that covered the top songs of the week. That experience led me to pursue a communications degree and eventually land an internship—and later, an on-air role—at a Houston radio station.
After several years, life and family responsibilities took me in a different direction, and before I knew it, 25 years had passed. But the passion never left. In 2023, as I turned 50, I felt a calling to pick the dream back up. I started investing in professional gear, studying new technology, and re-entering the scene as DJ Marco Polo.
Today, my focus is on weddings, corporate events, private celebrations, and conferences with audiences of 1,000+ attendees. It’s been a full-circle moment—and I’m grateful to QSC for helping me deliver the level of quality and performance that represents my brand.
DJ LIFE: What does being a mobile DJ mean to you?
Jewett: Being a mobile DJ is about living my passion through music. Everyone is born with a gift—some run toward it, others away from it. For me, that gift has always been music. Being a mobile DJ allows me to share that passion and create memorable experiences for every client and crowd I work with. It’s about connection, emotion, and energy—bringing people together through sound.
DJ LIFE: Can you tell us about your current DJ setup?
Jewett: I’m a proud QSC fan through and through. When I started this journey, I explored all the big names—BOSE, EV, and others—but QSC stood out immediately for its sound quality, innovation, and reliability. My current setup includes QSC’s KS118 subs, K12.2 tops, and the new KS15s, as well as the K-Cardioid (KC-12) towers, which I use for my premier wedding and corporate events. Clients constantly comment on how clean and powerful the sound is, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. I’ve also recently added the QSC TouchMix-8 digital mixer to my arsenal—it’s quickly become my go-to for live gigs.
DJ LIFE: What would your perfect or dream setup look like?
Jewett: Honestly, I’m living my dream setup right now. The only thing I’d love to add would be an all-white version of the KC-12s, so I can offer clients a choice between a sleek black or elegant white setup, depending on their event aesthetic.
DJ LIFE: What are some of the biggest pros and cons of being a mobile DJ?
Jewett: The biggest pro is the people—clients, vendors, and partners I meet along the way. My wife, Diana, and I run DJ Marco Polo Entertainment as a two-person team. We build relationships with our clients months in advance, guiding them through every step of the planning process and celebrating alongside them when the big day finally arrives. That human connection is everything.
As for cons, it’s physically and mentally demanding. The setup and teardown, travel, and attention to detail can take a toll—but the payoff is always worth it. I’m a perfectionist, so I strive to ensure every event runs flawlessly and exceeds expectations.
DJ LIFE: Do you have any DJ-related pet peeves?
Jewett: My biggest challenge is working with others who don’t hold up their end—especially when communication and coordination matter most. As a wedding and corporate DJ, timing and synergy are everything, and I rely on everyone bringing their A-game. When that doesn’t happen, it can make things tricky, but I always find a way to adapt.
DJ LIFE: How has being a DJ impacted your personal/family life?
Jewett: It’s been transformative. I knew going in that building this business would require support at home, so I made sure my wife was part of the journey from day one. Diana now serves as my operations manager and bilingual MC. She helps with client consultations, event coordination, and key announcements during weddings—including Spanish-language events like quinceañeras. Our teamwork has strengthened our marriage and our business at the same time.
