This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight, presented by QSC, shines on Cody Chamberlin (a.k.a. DJ Gigabit) from Albany, NY.
DJ Gigabit is this week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday spotlight. Presented by QSC, Cody Chamberlin (a.k.a. DJ Gigabit) is a mobile DJ, based out of Albany, NY.
Cody Chamberlin (DJ Gigabit) is a multifaceted talent from the Northeast who balances life as both a high school band director and a wedding/event DJ. With degrees in Music Education and a background in trumpet performance, Gigabit’s path to DJing was influenced by his twin brother, DJ Chamberguy, who introduced him to the craft.
What started with mixing at basketball games has since grown into a thriving career in the wedding and events world, where Gigabit brings his extensive live music and production experience to the DJ booth. His approach is rooted in precision, creativity, and passion for creating unforgettable moments for clients.
Balancing his teaching career with weekend gigs hasn’t been easy, but Gigabit embraces the challenge, crediting family traditions, support from his partner, and a love of music as his motivation. His philosophy is simple but powerful: “I get to do this; I don’t have to.” That mindset, paired with his commitment to delivering memorable experiences, defines DJ Gigabit’s growing impact in the mobile DJ community.

When DJ LIFE spoke with DJ Gigabit regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…
DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?
DJ Gigabit: During the week, I work full-time as a high school band director, where I teach Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, Music Theory, and Music Technology. I hold both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Music Education, and my primary instrument is the trumpet, which I studied classically. From 2016 to 2023, I performed in the wedding band scene, which gave me extensive experience with live music and event production.
My journey into DJing began through my twin brother, Kyle Chamberlin—also known as DJ Chamberguy—who was one of the original members of a multi-op DJ company started by a high school friend of ours. As the company grew and needed more DJs, my background in music, weddings, and live audio made me a natural fit for the team. Kyle introduced me to the Rev-1 board and taught me the basics of mixing while DJing high school basketball games. From there I swapped to FLX4, I started booking more events—and the rest is history.

DJ LIFE: Do you have any favorite or new gear that you’re currently using?
DJ Gigabit: Absolutely—my favorite and newest piece of gear is hands down the QSC KC12 speakers. I actually bought them without even hearing them first, simply because I’ve trusted QSC for years, ever since using their original K12 legacy series. Their products have always been reliable, consistent, and built to perform—and the KC12s are no exception.
What really sets them apart is their sleek, modern design and compact footprint. I’ve had multiple clients comment on how clean and futuristic they look, and guests are often surprised at how powerful they sound given their size. They deliver crystal-clear audio with amazing coverage, and they’ve helped streamline my entire setup.
Compared to using traditional tops and subs, these speakers save me a ton of space in my car and have cut my setup time down from about 30 minutes to just 10. For any mobile DJ looking to upgrade, I truly can’t recommend them enough—they’re a game-changer.
DJ LIFE: How has being a DJ impacted your personal/family life?
DJ Gigabit: Being a DJ is definitely a big commitment—especially since the majority of our events are weddings. You’re taking part in one of the most important days of someone’s life, and they’re trusting you to deliver a flawless experience. As my boss likes to say, every event is a Super Bowl.
That level of responsibility goes far beyond just the event itself. There’s planning, client calls, Zoom meetings, crate prep, and practicing—all of which take time away from loved ones, pets, and personal downtime.
My brother was actually a DJ before I was, and since we’re both out working most weekends and work our teaching jobs during the week, we usually only get to see each other when we’re on the rare gig together. But we’ve kept a tradition alive since our early days performing as an acoustic duo back in 2016: we always call each other before and after every event to check in and reflect on the night. It’s something small, but it means a lot.
My significant other is also in the arts—she’s a baton twirler and currently coaches a few students at a local college, helping them prepare for halftime shows. Her schedule is just as busy and unpredictable as mine, with her career and extracurricular commitments. We both understand the demands of each other’s passions, which helps us support one another in meaningful ways.
Balancing two careers—teaching during the week and DJing on weekends—can be a challenge. Sometimes I have to arrange for someone to let my dog out if my girlfriend isn’t home. But I truly love what I do, and that passion keeps me going.
At the end of the day, it’s all about finding balance. Whether it’s making time for a date night, planning a quick getaway, or keeping up traditions like those post-gig calls, the little things really matter. Making the effort to show appreciation to the people who support you can go a long way. It’s not always easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding.
DJ LIFE: What is the most important life lesson you have gained from your experience as a DJ?
DJ Gigabit: The most important life lesson I’ve learned as a DJ is to have fun doing what you love. When it stops being fun, it’s no longer worth it. I remind myself often—I get to do this; I don’t have to. Life is too short not to pursue your passion.
Music has always been a major part of my life. My grandfather was a musician, and I had incredible music teachers growing up who inspired me to follow this path. That support and inspiration led me to where I am today.
One of the most fulfilling parts of being a DJ is sharing my talents and being part of such meaningful moments in people’s lives. Helping couples celebrate one of the biggest days of their lives and knowing I played a role in making it unforgettable is something I feel truly blessed to do.
From start to finish, every event is an opportunity to give your all, take care of every detail, and leave people with lasting memories. Love what you do—and don’t stop.
