This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight, presented by QSC, shines on DeeJay Julian & My Cousin Vinny of Club Choices DJ from Sacramento, California.

Club Choices DJ is this week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday spotlight. Presented by QSC, DeeJay Julian (Stephen Bunch) & My Cousin Vinny (Vincent Miranda) of Club Choices DJ are mobiles based out of Sacramento, California.

The Sacramento-based powerhouse duo, Club Choices DJ of DeeJay Julian (Stephen Bunch) and My Cousin Vinny (Vincent Miranda), who bring a combined five decades of experience to their craft. DeeJay Julian, founder of Club Choices DJ, has been spinning vinyl across California for over 30 years, while My Cousin Vinny has logged more than 18 years as a touring DJ, producer, and mobile DJ with appearances at major events like SXSW in Austin and Art Basel in Miami.

Together, they’ve built a reputation for delivering high-quality performances at weddings, clubs, corporate events, and festivals by fusing their technical mastery with a true love for music and celebration. Their passion for DJing sparked early. Julian got his start swapping 45s at family parties at just nine years old, while Vinny convinced his parents to buy him a Numark DJ kit at 12 and never looked back. What began as youthful curiosity turned into a lifelong calling, driven by their desire to create joy, bring people together, and shape unforgettable moments through music.

For both, being a mobile DJ isn’t just about playing tracks – it’s about reading the room, sharing positive energy, and turning every event into a memory that lasts. With a custom-built booth, top-tier QSC gear, and a deep respect for their craft, Club Choices DJ continues to raise the bar for what a mobile DJ experience can be.

When DJ LIFE spoke with DeeJay Julian & My Cousin Vinny regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…

DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?

DeeJay Julian: I’m old school. It all started at the age of nine, when I would swap out 45s at my parents’ house parties. I still remember mastering that little yellow RPM adapter as if it were a rite of passage. From there, I was the popular guy playing music during lunch at my high school, carrying crates of vinyl and just loving every second of it. That spark never left. Over time, it evolved into something bigger than I ever imagined: a business (Club Choices DJ), a calling, and a lifelong passion.

My Cousin Vinny: I started DJing when I was 12 years old and convinced my parents to buy me a Numark DJ Starter Kit that had 2 turntables and a mixer. I always loved music, and once I started digging for records and DJing in my bedroom I became obsessed. That same year, in seventh grade, I had my first-ever DJ gig playing my classmate’s birthday party. The rest is history! Decades later working as a successful touring club/festival DJ/Music Producer, I expanded my brand into weddings, corporate and other private events. DeeJay Julian had been a longtime family friend, and in 2017 I partnered up with him to take Club Choices DJ to even bigger heights!

DJ LIFE: What does being a mobile DJ mean to you?

My Cousin Vinny: Being a mobile DJ means that I am responsible for creating the vibe for the party, and to spread love and joy through music. It is the highest honor for me to share my passion for music and ensure that everyone has the best time and leaves with happy memories that last forever. Being a DJ means being a master of energy in order to bring people together through music to have a great time.

DeeJay Julian: Being a mobile DJ means having the power to create unforgettable moments anywhere, at any time. Whether it’s a wedding in the vineyards, a corporate party downtown, or a backyard celebration, I get to bring the energy, music, and vibe directly into people’s lives. It’s more than just playing tracks; it’s about creating experiences, reading the room, and making memories that last a lifetime.

DJ LIFE: Can you tell us about your current DJ setup?

Club Choices DJ: Our current DJ set-up features a QSC KC12 Column PA System, providing high-quality sound for our clients. We also use two QSC KS 118 subwoofers and two QSC K12.2s, combined with our KC12s, for larger weddings and corporate events.

We have a custom Toadmatic DJ booth that houses our DJ equipment internally and features a 65-inch flat-screen display at the front. This booth features our Numark NS 6 DJ controller and wireless Shure microphones, along with our DJ laptops for mixing using Serato and Mix Emergency software. This allows us to display our custom visuals and DJ logos on the booth’s flat screen.

Additionally, we utilize an array of Chauvet lighting, including the ILS Command Controller, GigBAR Bridge ILSs, and uplighting, to enhance the experience at any venue size.

DJ LIFE: What would your perfect or dream setup look like?

Club Choices DJ: The QSC KC12 system has been a game-changer for us, with positive feedback from clients. Sound quality remains a priority as we continue to develop the setups we offer to our clients. To maintain our commitment to high audio performance and aesthetics, we plan to integrate the TouchMix®-30, an industry standard.

DJ LIFE: Do you have any favorite or new gear that you’re currently using?

Club Choices DJ: Our favorite is the new QSC KC12 Powered 3-Way Column Loudspeaker System! It sounds incredible and is perfect for any venue or event, whether large or small.

DJ LIFE: What are some of the biggest pros and cons of being a mobile DJ?

My Cousin Vinny: The biggest pros for me would be having the opportunities to travel the country and share my passion for music, performing in beautiful venues, nightclubs, and music festivals, and meeting so many cool people within the mobile DJ industry, as well as clients and party people who appreciate the vibes that I create with my DJ sets.

There’s not many cons for me because I love what I do, but I would say one would be the labor-intensive grind of setting up/taking down all of our gear when we do our events. Weddings, corporate events, etc. can make for a very long day (and night), and as much as the traveling is fun, it can be quite grueling when factoring the travel time into a gig.

DeeJay Julian: Pros? The freedom, the people, and the music. I enjoy the diverse events I get to be part of, from weddings to backyard boogies. Every event is different. Cons? Loading gear at 1 a.m. in a tuxedo isn’t fun, especially without an elevator. Outdoor events are unpredictable with the weather, but those experiences make great stories.

DJ LIFE: How has being a DJ impacted your personal/family life?

My Cousin Vinny: I always say that music saved my life, and DJing was a creative outlet that helped me get through some very serious health issues that I overcame as an adolescent. DJing has made such a positive impact on my life and has brought so many wonderful people into it. I live by the quote “your vibe attracts your tribe,” and I believe that DJing has a huge part in the positive, loving people that I’m surrounded by. It can be challenging missing out on special family events and vacations, but having the flexibility of my schedule still allows me to make time for my friends, family and loved ones in other ways.

DeeJay Julian: DJing is a huge part of who I am, and my family knows that. It’s given me the flexibility to be present in my family’s lives while building a business I love. Of course, weekends are busy, that’s showtime, but I’ve learned to balance. I also love that my family gets to be part of the journey. My wife Mitzie has supported this dream from day one, and my son has learned what it means to build something meaningful. Plus, they’ve got great taste in music!

DJ LIFE: What is the most important life lesson you have gained from your experience as a DJ?

My Cousin Vinny: Your energy is everything.

DeeJay Julian: Stay ready and stay humble. Every crowd is different, every event has its own rhythm, and things don’t always go as planned. You’ve got to be adaptable, think on your feet, and keep the vibe alive, no matter what. It’s also taught me that music is one of the most powerful connectors we have. Through DJing, I’ve learned how to bring people together, how to listen, and how to lead a room without saying a word. That’s a gift I don’t take lightly.
