This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight, presented by QSC, shines on DJ Chad Allen from San Diego, CA

DJ Chad Allen is this week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday spotlight. Presented by QSC, Chad Allen Blackburn of Almost Famous Entertainment, based out of San Diego, California.

There are many pros and cons to being a mobile DJ, but most importantly, recognizing all that goes into mastering the craft and the journey behind each DJ tells full their story. When it comes to DJ Chad Allen, he enjoys the flexibility of working in different locations and meeting new people, but talks about how the setup and breakdown process can be especially demanding. Clients also sometimes might not realize just how much behind-the-scenes work goes into making an event appear seamless.

Being a mobile DJ means there’s a lot that comes along with the territory, including being able to craft unforgettable experiences to each and every event. According to Chad, “It’s about creating an atmosphere where people can celebrate, connect, and escape through music.” We discuss how he got his start as a DJ, what being a mobile DJ means to him, important life lessons, and also how working as a mobile DJ has impacted his personal and family life. All this and more is covered in our sit-down with DJ Chad Allen.

When DJ LIFE spoke with Chad regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…

DJ LIFE: What does being a mobile DJ mean to you?

DJ Chad Allen: Being a mobile DJ means bringing unforgettable experiences to every event, no matter the location. It’s about creating an atmosphere where people can celebrate, connect, and escape through music. Whether it’s a wedding, a corporate event, or a festival, my job is to elevate the moment with the perfect soundtrack.

DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?

DJ Chad Allen: My journey into DJing started with a deep love for music and entertainment. I was always the guy curating the playlists at parties, and that passion accidentally evolved into a career. Over time, I built my brand, Almost Famous Entertainment, and expanded into weddings, corporate events, and beyond.

DJ LIFE: Do you have any favorite or new gear that you’re currently using?

DJ Chad Allen: Absolutely! Right now, I’m using the new K Column from QSC, and I am absolutely in love with the sound quality and sleek design. These speakers not only deliver incredible audio clarity but also elevate the look of my setup, making everything feel more modern and professional.

I’m also rocking the Neo 4 DJ booth from Modern Consoles, which has been a game-changer for my performances. It features a built-in TV, making it perfect for my video DJing sets or just taking the aesthetic of my setup to the next level. It’s a beautiful, functional piece that really enhances my presence at any event.

DJ LIFE: What are some of the biggest pros and cons of being a mobile DJ?
    DJ Chad Allen:

    • Pros: The flexibility of working in different locations, meeting amazing people, and playing a huge role in life’s biggest celebrations. Every gig is unique, and I love the challenge of reading a crowd and keeping the energy high.
    • Cons: The setup and breakdown process can be physically demanding, and travel can be exhausting. Also, clients sometimes don’t realize the behind-the-scenes effort that goes into making an event seamless.

DJ LIFE: How has being a DJ impacted your personal/family life?

DJ Chad Allen: DJing has given me incredible opportunities, from performing at major events to building relationships with talented artists. However, balancing family life and weekend gigs is always a challenge. My wife and kids are my biggest supporters, and I make sure to prioritize family time while also growing our brand.

DJ LIFE: What is the most important life lesson you have gained from your experience as a DJ?

DJ Chad Allen: Adaptability is everything. No two events are the same, and being able to adjust to different crowds, technical issues, or last-minute changes is key. It’s taught me patience, resilience, and how to stay cool under pressure.
