Paul Oakenfold Tour Diary Week 9: Just as North America’s World Cup tournament has been whittled down to its final four, we had a four-city run this past week.
Minneapolis – Our United Champions Tour with The Crystal Method has been going incredibly well. And just as North America’s World Cup tournament has been whittled down to its final four, we had a four-city run this past week.
We started off this past Thursday at the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. Great to see some old friends. A sold-out show, and what a wonderful crowd. I played a brand new remix of my new single, “Masquerade,” as well as a new version of my classic, “Starry Eyed Surprise.” It was great to see the response on both of those.
I had dinner at my friend’s restaurant, and it was great to see him. The next day, we caught a plane to the next city, Detroit, for a gig at The Magic Stick.
I’ve been going to Detroit for many, many years. The first club I played was Motor, which was the home of techno. Great to see some old friends, play some new music, play some remixes of classics from back in the day, and some of my own tunes that have been freshened up.
Moving onto Chicago for the Park West show, I went to Gibson’s for my yearly steakhouse visit in the Windy City. The food is fantastic in Chicago. Great to play at the home of house music. The next day, I had some deep-dish pizza. If you go to Chicago, try it – you’ll love it.
For the final show, we went to the First Avenue club in downtown Minneapolis, the home of Prince. As the 1984 film Purple Rain was shot there, we saw some of the memorabilia on the wall and the motor bike that he was pictured on. Another sold-out show, so thank you to everyone who came.
Onto the last shows of the United Champions Tour, and then onto Europe/U.K.!
