Dispatches from the Road: A World Cup Tour

Paul Oakenfold Tour Diary Week 4: As Paul travels from London to Portland, The United Champions Tour (aka the World Cup tour) is about to begin.

Portland, Ore. – As I travel from London to Portland, I start to think about the tour that’s finally beginning – The United Champions Tour (aka the World Cup tour). It’s a tour that takes us from Mexico to America to Canada and then back to America – the World Cup’s three host countries. Also, it’s a tour that will take us to games featuring a great many of the countries that are in the World Cup. Some of the matches I’ll attend include Brazil vs. Scotland, England vs. Croatia, U.S. vs. Switzerland, plus many more.

As I got to Portland, I met up with my colleagues who are on the tour: my tour manager Lain Roy, SiriusXM Radio’s Liquid Todd (our opening DJ) and The Crystal Method (aka Scott Kirkland). I did a previous tour with The Crystal Method, and it went so well that we decided to embark on Part 2 of the tour, playing some of my classics, remixing some of my records from the past, and playing new music. Really looking forward to this full tour.

Portland, our first show, was sold out, so… a great start to the tour. And a wonderful crowd and night it was, showcasing my brand-new single “Masquerade,” featuring 2LØT, seeing some old friends, and having some laughs. I met up with the team from Future of Space, the group that took me to the Galápagos when I played there. We had a wonderful lunch with them.

As we wrapped up the first show, we all headed to San Francisco for our next show, which again was a great crowd. Many good friends turned up. It was a wonderful night, and the tour started off in a really great way.

I got on the phone the next day with my management and got the latest on “Masquerade.” Thank you, if you’re reading this, for your support. The record was added to a bunch of playlists, which is a really good start. Club reaction from DJs has been wonderful, and with some big support from my colleagues. A great start to the record and a great start on the tour.

I look forward to next week when I head to Mexico City for a pre-party for the World Cup, and then we’ll be going to the opening game – Mexico vs. South Africa. We’ll bounce back next week with the next show being at SILO in Dallas. Hope to see you there on Texas time.

Track of the Weekend: Paul Oakenfold x 2LØT’s “Masquerade.”
