DJ Chino & DJ Tica [Mobile Monday Spotlight]

This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight, presented by QSC, shines on husband-and-wife duo DJ Chino (Luis) & DJ Tica (Marilyn) of Luma Event Professionals from Atlanta.

Husband and wife DJ duo Marilyn and Luis Lee (DJ Chino & DJ Tica) are this week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday spotlight. Presented by QSC, Marilyn and Luis, owners of Luma Event Professionals, are based out of Atlanta, Georgia. For DJ Chino and DJ Tica, music has always been more than entertainment – it’s been the foundation of a life and business built together. After years in the club scene developing his craft and mastering open-format DJing, DJ Chino stepped away to focus on family before launching a mobile DJ company alongside his wife.

As a husband-and-wife team, they own and operate Luma Event Productions, with the power couple consisting of Marilyn Lee (DJ Tica) serves as Owner, DJ, MC, and Coordinator, and Luis Lee (DJ Chino) is CEO & Founder, DJ, and MC. What began as a passion project evolved into an award-winning business, with the duo earning recognition as 2025 Best of Georgia Winners while continuing to bring their signature energy to weddings and events across diverse communities. Their story is rooted in adaptability, family, and culture. DJ Tica unexpectedly discovered her love for DJing after stepping in to cover an event, quickly realizing the impact music could have in creating joy and connection.

Together, the pair has become known for incorporating an array of genres and traditions, especially during multicultural weddings where balancing different musical tastes is essential. With their children involved in the business and a shared commitment to hard work, DJ Chino and DJ Tica continue to turn every celebration into a deeply personal experience – and that’s what sets them apart from the rest!

When DJ LIFE spoke with Marilyn and Luis regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…

DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?

DJ Chino: From a young age, I had a passion for music and sound engineering. I started playing at local clubs back in 1996 and bought my first set of CDJs. At the clubs, I was able to enhance my art of DJing and keep a crowd engaged with new hits and unique mixing styles. When I met my wife back in 2003, I decided to start a family and leave the club scene. I started our DJ business and have been working alongside my wife ever since.

DJ Tica: My husband has been a DJ for over 20 years, and I have always been by his side at every single event. I never had any intentions of becoming a DJ until one day I had to cover a gig for my husband for a Halloween kids party because he was called to DJ a wedding for a client whose DJ canceled at the last minute. I knew how to use the DJ equipment and how to set it up. The experience I had seeing those kids having a blast while I was playing music was an amazing feeling. After that, I just could not wait to be a DJ at another event. Music is the one thing that can bring joy to anyone. Most of the events I have done have been mixed weddings where two or three cultures are part of your dance floor.

DJ LIFE: What does being a mobile DJ mean to you?

DJ Chino & DJ Tica: Mobile DJs can travel anywhere and perform to create unforgettable memories with many people. We can adjust and adapt to any scenario or venue to perform for our clients. Having the opportunity to bring joy and a fun time is what makes being a mobile DJ an amazing journey.

DJ LIFE: Can you tell us about your current DJ setup?

DJ Chino & DJ Tica: QSC K12.2 tops and KS212C subs, FLX10 controller or a REV7 controller, Ape Labs lighting, Shure microphones, and DJ booths. We have several booths from Humpter and Bunn Gear Booth.

DJ LIFE: What are some of the biggest pros and cons of being a mobile DJ?

    DJ Chino & DJ Tica:

Cons: We constantly need to advertise and create content to make sure we are exposed to new clients. Running a business as a mobile DJ requires determination, passion, and hard work.

Pros: Having the opportunity to perform at different events or venues is a very exciting experience. Seeing people having fun and dancing the entire night while you are the one creating that experience is just an amazing feeling. As open-format DJs, we have the ability to play all types of genres and perform at events with diverse crowds. Our company specializes in mixed-culture events where we have two or more ethnic groups, and we have to create the perfect balance to incorporate everyone’s taste in music.

DJ LIFE: How has being a DJ impacted your personal/family life?

DJ Tica: It actually has been a blessing to be able to DJ alongside my husband (DJ Chino) and share our passion together. Our teenagers are able to be part of our business, and we teach them the importance of hard work. We prioritize family time, so we always find time to be with our kids regardless.
