When DJ LIFE spoke with Jason Zaplin (aka DJ Zap) regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…
DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?
DJ Zap Music: Started with my buddy Jake when we were 8… in NJ.
DJ LIFE: Can you tell us about your current DJ setup?
DJ Zap Music: I use the QSC K12s currently and CP12s for lighter gigs.
DJ LIFE: What would your perfect or dream setup look like?
DJ Zap Music: LED wall, with 10 speakers in a club in New York, with 10,000 people rocking with me.
DJ LIFE: Do you have any favorite or new gear that you’re currently using?
DJ Zap Music: CP12s—I love them for light load-ins for smaller gigs.
DJ LIFE: What are some of the biggest pros and cons of being a mobile DJ?
DJ Zap Music:
Cons are late nights, drunk people, and crazy requests during the night.
Pros are rocking a great crowd with people that want to dance.
DJ LIFE: Do you have any DJ-related pet peeves?
DJ Zap Music: No pet peeves at the moment aside from DJs with big egos.
DJ LIFE: How has being a DJ impacted your personal and family life?
DJ Zap Music: I’ve been working late nights all my life, so it can be tough to be with family.
