Celebrating 40 years of turntablism, the world’s top scratch DJs head to Tokyo this October for a historic showdown at the ultimate DJ competition.
The Technics DMC World DJ Championship is celebrating its 40th anniversary in proper fashion – and they’re announcing the official list of 2025 finalists who will compete in Tokyo for the first time in the competition’s history.
Set for October 11 & 12, 2025, at venues O-East and Harlem, the event will see 40 of the planet’s best scratch DJs battle it out across multiple formats, from precision Scratch displays to head-to-head Supremacy clashes. With over 800 entrants across 16 countries, this year’s finalists represent the very best of the global turntablist community.
Defending champions Aociz of France and K-Swizz of New Zealand lead the pack, aiming to once again secure their place in DMC history. They’ll be joined by an eclectic mix of seasoned competitors and new stars, including Brazil’s DJ Raylan and DJ Shinpa, Japan’s DJ Fummy, Poland’s Chmielix, NelsonX (competing in both Scratch and Supremacy), and Dubai’s prodigy DJ Michelle, who first became a finalist at just 9 years old. Rising forces such as Prague’s Simonczech and the young talent The Kid RC3 from the U.S., bring innovation and next-level technicality as DMC continues to inspire the next generation.
Expect to see all of DMC’s signature categories on full display: the Classic six-minute routine battle, the lightning-fast Scratch showcase, Supremacy knockout clashes, and The Open, which embraces diverse DJ styles and equipment. Judging will focus on originality, technical skill, musicality, and overall impact – the same criteria that have defined turntablism excellence since the competition began.
Since its founding in 1985 by Tony Prince, the DMC World DJ Championship has stood as the premier proving ground for DJ talent worldwide, shaping the craft of turntablism and elevating its champions to legendary status. From launching the career of A-Trak at 15 to celebrating icons like Craze, DMC’s legacy is filled with unforgettable moments. This October, Tokyo becomes the global epicenter of DJ culture as #DMC40 writes the next chapter in the history of turntablism.
