This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight, presented by QSC, shines on DJ Romin Zandi of Zandi Entertainment, based out of Virginia.

DJ Romin Zandi is this week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday spotlight. Presented by QSC, Romin of Zandi Entertainment is based out of Virginia. For Romin Zandi, being a mobile DJ is all about versatility, creativity, and connection. With more than 14 years behind the decks, he’s built a career around bringing people together through music.

Whether it’s transforming a wedding into an Ibiza-style dance floor or curating a nostalgic 2000s college throwback, Zandi embraces his DJ life with passion and purpose. His journey began in 2011, inspired by a local DJ whose ability to command a crowd sparked a lifelong passion for mixing and entertaining. Today, that spark continues to fuel a full-time career built on dedication, craft, and family support. While the mobile DJ life means long hours and weekends away from family, Zandi embraces it, turning every event into a memorable experience. And with his wife and two sons now part of the business, it’s clear that for Zandi, music isn’t just a profession – it’s a family legacy in motion.

When DJ LIFE spoke with Zandi regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…

DJ LIFE: What does being a mobile DJ mean to you?

DJ Romin Zandi: Being a mobile DJ to me allows me to create different atmospheres for different clients. One client can desire to feel like they’re in Ibiza with an afro house feel with another with a nostalgic 2000s throwback from their college days. I love the diversity of the environments I get to create!

DJ LIFE: How and when did you first get your start as a DJ?

Zandi: I got started as a DJ back in 2011 when attending a hookah lounge where I saw a DJ perform and was blown away how they were able to control the audience’s attention with their music selection, plus it just looked cool to be the one bringing everyone together to let loose and have fun. That DJ’ ended up being my mentor and teaching me the ropes and then from there I was off and haven’t looked back and here we are 14 years later.

DJ LIFE: What does your current DJ setup consist of? How about your dream setup?

Zandi: My current set up consists of Custom DJ Booth with Rane 12’s, Pioneer S11 with touch mix 16 as my mixer with Sennheiser EWD microphones. I use a range of K10-K12.2’s for main fills paired with KW-181 subs.

My dream setup is line arrays and double 18inch subs with LED walls and lasers with haze and CO2 at each show.

DJ LIFE: Do you have any favorite or new gear that you’re currently using?

Zandi: Gear wise I’m a big fan of the touch mix series QSC came out with (I have 4 of them), they make our sound so much better. Really enjoying the Sennheiser EWD series mics and their ability to navigate through the RF environment. Been super solid and reliable and easy to use!

DJ LIFE: Share some of the pros and cons about being a mobile DJ…

Zandi: Biggest pro of being a mobile DJ is creating high-energy parties anywhere from a rooftop party down in the city to a tented wedding in the blue ridge mountains. I love the diversity of it! The con is the number of hours that go into the soundtrack and production of each event. It can take you away from family events and moments and your free time.

DJ LIFE: Do you have any DJ-related pet-peeves?

Zandi: My DJ related pet-peeves are those who don’t practice names of their couples or clients and butcher them and those who use their controller or mixer as a soundcard for their microphones. (always use a separate source to dial these in)

DJ LIFE: How has being a DJ impacted your personal/family life?

Zandi: DJing has had a big impact on my overall life. It’s hard to get away on the weekends with kids and family when you’re working. It’s truly an exhausting career that takes a lot of energy, passion and love to do. After 14 years I still love the creative aspect of music as the craft never stops along with hosting and taking care of people. I get to do with my energy and music. My family is all in as well and super supportive with my wife being the co-owner and our two boys Piero (18) who is now working as an event tech with us and Henri (5) whom is the official cases pusher for when we pack our vans 😊
