    DJ DESIRE [Mobile Monday Spotlight]

This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight, presented by QSC, shines on DJ DESIRE from Las Vegas, NV & Scottsdale, AZ.

DJ DESIRE is this week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday spotlight. Presented by QSC, Ashley Thompson a/k/a DJ DESIRE of Desirable Entertainment is based out of Las Vegas, Nevada and Scottsdale, Arizona.

Born with music in her DNA, Ashley Thompson grew up in the greater Los Angeles area. With early exposure to her father’s DJ service company, she was influenced early-on by his ability to command a dance floor. By the time she was 15 years old, she began teaching herself how to DJ on her father’s turntables.

Fast forward to 2025, and now Thompson, also known as DJ DESIRE, runs her very own all-female DJ company, Desirable Entertainment, which focuses on providing mobile DJ services for special events in Scottsdale, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada. When we touched base with Ashley, she filled us in on how she got her start as a DJ, her current DJ setup versus dream setup, and the most important life lessons she’s gained thus far over the course of her career journey.

When DJ LIFE spoke with DJ DESIRE regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…

DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?

DJ DESIRE: I was born with music in my DNA. Growing up in the greater Los Angeles area, I was exposed to my father’s DJ Service company and was heavily influenced by his ability to cater to the crowd and command a dance floor. With a background in hip hop dancing and undying love for pop culture and music, I began teaching myself how to DJ using my father’s turntables (Technics SL-1200s) when I was 15 years old.

I learned that commanding crowds and directing dance floors with my music selections and crafty mixing skills was what I desired most in life, defining myself as “DJ Desire” in 2010. I began providing DJ services at the age of 16, focusing on private and corporate parties. I began DJ’ing my first of countless weddings at only 17 while also working my mixes into the nightclub scene a year later.

Fast forward to the year 2025, I now run my own all female DJ company – Desirable Entertainment – providing mobile DJ services for special events in Scottsdale AZ and Las Vegas NV. We happily service weddings, corporate events, school functions, retail stores, sporting events and restaurants. In Scottsdale, a major event market for us includes bachelorette parties and brand activations.

DJ LIFE: Can you tell us about your current DJ setup?

DJ DESIRE: Absolutely! My current mobile DJ setup is all about performance and presentation, while keeping my setup time down to a minimum. I use the white QSC KC12 column speakers —they sound amazing and look so clean and elevated. My controller is either the Pioneer DDJ-SR2 or the SX2, depending on the event (though I’m definitely eyeing an upgrade soon!). I run lighting with the white Gigbar Move by Chauvet, and my workstation is a white ProX Vista DJ facade, which keeps things sleek and professional.

I also use wireless mics and battery-powered uplights for weddings and upscale events. I’m big on aesthetics, and my all-white setup really makes a statement. It’s elegant, it’s modern, and it’s completely on brand for Desirable Entertainment.

DJ LIFE: What would your perfect or dream setup look like?

DJ DESIRE: Honestly, I’m almost there! But I’d love to add white LED tube lights to complement my clean aesthetic and maybe move on from the Gigbar. I’ve been keeping my eye out for ones that match the rest of my setup. A dream setup would also include upgraded Pioneer gear, and maybe a custom-fitted command center/DJ booth to really elevate the look. And of course—someone else to do all the loading and unloading wouldn’t hurt!

DJ LIFE: What is the most important life lesson you have gained from your experience as a DJ?

DJ DESIRE: Being a DJ has taught me that confidence opens doors. You have to walk into a room, read the crowd, and lead the energy—there’s no room for hesitation. It’s also taught me the value of preparation. The best sets happen when you’ve done the work behind the scenes. I’ve learned to trust myself, stand in my power, and never settle for “good enough.” That mindset has carried over into every part of my life.
