A believer in the profound power of music, Brandi Stevens a/k/a DJ bselecta says from the moment she opened her eyes, music was her first love. So, it’s no coincidence she’s taking the DJ world by storm – especially given the chance to connect with people and share the immense passion in countless, meaningful ways.
Based out Los Angeles, California, DJ bselecta of The RIZE Event fills DJ LIFE in on her current DJ setup, as well as what a dream DJ setup would consist of. When it comes to how Stevens first got her start as a DJ, she reveals she spent a year of late nights practicing the fundamentals of DJing, after putting her daughter to bed. With her first-ever DJ gig during a spin class, she explains how with every event, new doors opened, new connections were made, and her business started growing organically.
When DJ LIFE spoke with DJ bselecta regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…
DJ LIFE: What does being a mobile DJ mean to you?
DJ bselecta: Being a DJ means everything to me. From the moment I opened my eyes, music was my first love. I never imagined building a career that would allow me to share the music I love with people all over the world. I’ve always believed in the profound power of music, and working as a DJ has given me the incredible opportunity to connect with people and share that passion in countless, meaningful ways.
DJ LIFE: Can you tell us about your current DJ setup?
DJ bselecta: I felt like it was super important for me to learn on the same platform as the original DJ’s. So, I started on Technics and honesty prefer them if logistics allow. I use a pair of Technics SL-1200s with a Pioneer S9 mixer for most of my setups. For gigs that won’t allow my main setup, I rely on the Pioneer DDJSRT-1000. When it comes to sound, my QSC K12 speakers deliver excellent performance at nearly any event, and if I need a boost in low-end power, I bring out the KS118.
DJ LIFE: What would your perfect or dream setup look like?
DJ bselecta: I’m ready to explore turntable controllers and upgrade my Pioneer mixer to the S11. The new QSC K Columns have quickly become my dream setup, they have a sleek, modern design with exceptional sound quality and a particularly impressive low end that I absolutely love.
DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?
DJ bselecta: I spent a year of late nights, practicing the fundamentals after putting my daughter to bed. My first gig was a spin class. I remember being so nervous to play a set I had practiced for months. But with every event, new doors opened, new connections were made, and my business grew organically.
DJ LIFE: What is the most important life lesson you have gained from your experience as DJ?
DJ bselecta: It’s hard to narrow down everything I’ve gained from this experience into one single takeaway. However, one thing stands out: your passion is your true purpose, and the most exciting and transformative experiences often come when you step through your fears.
