Enjoy the February 2025 edition of “Behind the Wedding Music,” a resource to help build wedding playlists for DJs.

Each month we will highlight new songs and include a line of song lyrics, a description of the song’s emotional profile, and a few fun facts — designed to help you advise a wedding couple if they’re looking for something fresh in their playlist.

New wedding song ideas from January 2025:

    Rio

    J Balvin

    January 24, 2025

A Latin love song by one of the icons in the music industry for a dance party.

Notable Lyrics: “A sweet, kind mamacita with an amazing body and face, And though she’s innocent and compares herself to others, God made her humble, but I see her as priceless”

Fun Facts: The song is a message that describes how finding the right person can heal you and help you discover your best self. Balvins’ ‘Back to the Rayo North American Tour’ begins in March and travels through mid-May.

    Sports car

    Tate McRae

    January 24, 2025

This is a spicy pop dance song similar to Sabrina Carpenter’s hits of 2024.

Notable Lyrics: “I can’t take no more, I’m goin’ weak in my knees, Where’d you put those keys? We can share one seat”

Fun Facts: Really not sure why the music video does not feature a single sports car. The song will be featured on her upcoming album ‘So Close To What’ released later this month. Her ‘Miss Possessibe Tour’ begins in mid-March in Mexico and travels worldwide through September.

    Slow Motion

    Marshmello & Jonas Brothers

    January 17, 2025

A mid-tempo song to play as guests arrive at the reception to keep it upbeat.

Notable Lyrics: “Been waitin’ all day to get you in this moment, So let’s just take it slow, slow motion”

Fun Facts: Nick Jonas will star in the first-ever Broadway production of Jason Robert Brown’s musical “The Last Five Years” set to open March 18th. You may remember that the two collaborated before on the track “Leave Before You Love Me” released in 2021.

    Happy People

    Nao

    January 17, 2025

A song about being in love and wanting them forever as a mid-tempo background song.

Notable Lyrics: “I found my people, Living like happy people, Living a life more peaceful, I don’t need no one else but you and I”

Fun Facts: Nao describes her music as “wonky funk” which could be soul combined with electronic music, funk, and R&B. Nao begins her European tour in late February and her North American tour in mid-April until May 7th.

    Just Might Get It

    Jagged Edge

    January 17, 2025

A mid-tempo R&B groove you could play for cocktail hour or dinner.

Notable Lyrics: “Every piece of me, girl, I’ve given for, Your love, the thing I’m living for, Girl, I’ll break down all your walls”

Fun Facts: The song is the first released from their upcoming album ‘All Original Parts, Vol. 1.’. This is their first studio album since 2020’s ‘A Jagged Love Story’. The group is still touring and has dates starting in February at select locations.

    Angel of Mine

    Tobiahs

    January 17, 2025

An upbeat vibe to play as guests arrive at the reception for R&B and dance music fans.

Notable Lyrics: “When I lost all hope, you showed me love, I’m checking for you, boy, You’re right on time, Angel of mine”

Fun Facts: The song is a remix first released by Eternal in 1997 and Monica’s in 1998 titled “Angel Of Mine”. Monica’s version had more commercial success hitting #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Tobiahs has almost 2.5 million monthly Spotify listeners.

    Hypnotized

    Anyma & Ellie Goulding

    January 10, 2025

Mix in this song during the dancing portion of a wedding reception for a melodic house beat.

    https://youtu.be/Z92JGegBYm0?si=lcVjCnVQU9VFCJ10

Notable Lyrics: “I feel hypnotized, circles in my eyes, I’m losing my mind, I feel hypnotized, blinded by your light”

Fun Facts: The song went viral during Anyma’s residency at the Las Vegas Sphere titled ‘The End of Genesys’ – the first EDM show at the location. He still has 4 more shows at the Sphere at the end of February and the beginning of March.

    Last Song

    Alan Walker & Faouzia

    January 10, 2025

If you are looking for an EDM song to close out a wedding reception with a last-song theme – you found it!

Notable Lyrics: “Let the strings play, and the bass drum roar, Tell me you’ll stay, For one more encore”

Fun Facts: The song surpassed 2 million streams in its first week! Walker is having a competition for new versions of his song “Old Habits”. Submit a full version of Old Habits with your vocals or a remix of the Old Habits instrumental. The winner will get their work featured on the official Old Habits EP.

    Rain or Shine

Drew Holcomb, Ellie Holcomb & Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors

    January 9, 2025

A song that blends country and blues for a fun hit – and a cocktail hour gem to give everyone happy feels.

Notable Lyrics: “On a cold night, low, high, whatever is right, My love will keep you warm, When the wind blows, God knows, Baby, I’ll be your refuge from the storm”

Fun Facts: The song is on the newly released album titled ‘Memory Bank’ and they are currently on their Memory Bank Tour across the U.S. Drew and Ellie Holcomb are a married couple who have toured together as Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors – with nearly 2 million monthly Spotify listeners.

    You Are All I Need

    SK Austen

    January 3, 2025

A great vibe-setting song to play as a wedding reception begins.

Notable Lyrics: “You are all I need in my life, in my life, you are all I need by my side, by my side”

Fun Facts: SK Austen is an up-and-coming producer specializing in EDM, Deep House, House, and more. He’s just getting started with nearly 70,000 monthly Spotify listeners and 500 followers on YouTube. Keep an eye out for more new music!
