Enjoy the July 2024 edition of “Behind the Wedding Music,” a resource to help build wedding playlists for DJs.

Each month we will highlight new songs and include a line of song lyrics, a description of the song’s emotional profile, and a few fun facts — designed to help you advise a wedding couple if they’re looking for something fresh in their playlist.

A few newly released wedding songs from June 2024:

    Dance Through The Night

Gryffin, Whethan & Norma Jean Martine

    June 28, 2024

With uptempo beats, the track features lyrics that fit the love theme at a wedding reception and progressive builds for drama.

Notable Lyrics: “Hold my hand, let’s dance through the night / Dance through the night / Dance through the night / All I need is you by my side / We’ll be alright”

Fun Facts: The song will be featured on Gryffin’s anticipated third studio album PULSE due this Summer. Whethan is an American DJ with over 1 billion streams and has collaborated with Dua Lipa, Yeat, and Tom Morello. He surpassed 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

    Tonight (D.I.Y.A)

Jax Jones, Joel Corry & Jason Derulo

    June 28, 2024

A dance track that couples can enjoy while dancing with their angel as the song says.

Notable Lyrics: “Girl, I, I just died in your arms tonight / I didn’t even try to escape (No) / I just died in your arms tonight (Tonight) / I knew I shoulda walked away”

Fun Facts: The song samples the 1980s hit “(I Just) Died in Your Arms” by Cutting Crew. Corry is currently enjoying his residency in Ibiza but also has show dates around the world this summer. Even though Derulo’s 2024 residency in Las Vegas is over, he does have select tour dates through the remainder of the year worldwide.

    Pour Me A Drink

    Post Malone, Blake Shelton

    June 21, 2024

A fun song to play that hits the theme for cocktail hour. If not your flavor, it’s a good wo-stepping song.

Notable Lyrics: “Somebody pour me a drink, somebody bum me a smoke / I’m ’bout to get on a buzz, I’m ’bout to get on a roll”

Fun Facts: The song follows another country collab with Morgan Wallen on “I Had Some Help” which is a big summer hit right now. The song will be featured on his upcoming sixth studio album titled F-1 Trillion to be released August 16. Posty has been threatening an all-country album. TBD.

    Feelslikeimfallinginlove

    Coldplay

    June 21, 2024

A mid-tempo love song to play as an upbeat recessional song or as a background song during the reception.

Notable Lyrics: “Oh, it feels like / I’m fallin’ in love / Maybe for the first time / Baby, it’s my mind you blow”

Fun Facts: The music video is a must-watch. It was shot on location at Athens’ historic 2,000-year-old Odeon of Herodes Atticus. All of the audience was invited to convert via the band’s social media. The band is currently on their Music of the Spheres World Tour which has already been through the U.S.

    Take Me Home, Country Roads

    KSHMR

Notable Lyrics: “Country roads, take me home / country road / To the place I belong”

Fun Facts: The song remixes the famous John Denver hit “Take Me Home, Country Roads”. The music video captures KSHMR traveling through America in a motorhome RV. KSHMR even offers music production courses in Hindi, English, and Spanish.

    Not Proud of You

    David C Smalley

A song for a parent and child dance during a wedding reception for the theme of the parent accepting their child being gay.

Imagine an explosion of talent on one techno track for a euphoric dance experience.

Notable Lyrics: “I wish wish the night could last forever / I wish wish the night could last forever”

Fun Facts: For younger music fans, Terry helped define the New York house scene in the 1990s and used extensive samples that blended the sounds of classic disco, the Chicago house sound, and elements of hip-hop. Terry was influential in moving house music beyond the early Chicago house sound beginnings. Lara Klart is the first female DJ from Ecuador to reach international stardom.
