Mobile Monday DJ Spotlight: DJ Tim Nice

This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight shines on DJ Tim Nice of The Baltimore Blend Battle and CEO of Nice Guys Entertainment.

DJ LIFE recently caught up with DJ Tim Nice to discuss what being a mobile DJ means to him, among his work as CEO of Nice Guys Entertainment. As organizer for The Baltimore Blend Battle, and CEO of Nice Guys Entertainment, Tim Nice speaks about perfect DJ setup, go-to gear, and even the pros and cons that come along with his profession.

When we sat down to discuss all things mobile DJ with Tim, it went down a little something like this…

DJ LIFE: What does being a Mobile DJ mean to you?

DJ Tim Nice: Being the perfect accompaniment to the party and the final piece of the puzzle – the glue that makes it all come together. Mobile DJing isn’t just about music. We are logistic workers, crowd watchers, people pleasers, and one the fly problem solvers! We want to be the first thing people talk about once the event is over… in a good way of course!

DJ LIFE: What can you share with us about your preferred or perfect DJ setup?

Tim Nice: Coming from the turntable ERA, my weapon of choice out in the street is the Pioneer DJ REV-7! I get the perfect feeling of slip and resistance from those decks, and it makes me feel right at home when I’m playing. For speakers, I’m choosing the RCF Evox 12 system. Those speakers really cover a lot of ground. DJ’s: also get yourself a cart to move this stuff around, Lol. I like my Rock n Roller Cart. Also, I’m team Windows, so I use my Alienware x14r2 laptop, which gives me the confidence to use all the new features the software has to offer (TEAM VIRTUAL DJ!!!)

DJ LIFE: Do you have any favorite/go-to or new gear that you’ve been utilizing lately?

Tim Nice: I think my biggest piece of go to gear would be the Virtual DJ software. The autoplay controls for the early portion of the event help me get situated with other tasks while still playing good music. I also love the fact that I can easily convert from being a video or karaoke DJ in an instant! I think all DJs should thoroughly learn their software. It makes a big difference!

DJ LIFE: What are some of your biggest pet peeves as a DJ, if any, or the pros and cons of being a mobile DJ?

Tim Nice: I’m a bit old school, so I’m not too fond of somebody shoving a phone in my face with a song request. Most DJs are friendly, so talk to them if you have a chance… just don’t do it in the middle of a transition! LOL

I think one of the pros of being a mobile DJ is the fact that you have an opportunity to be versatile! You may have a corporate event in the morning playing background music, to a pool party in the afternoon, playing the hottest hits! Mobile DJing doesn’t allow yourself to be boxed into a certain genre. You have to have some range!

The CON… the lugging of the equipment!! That’s never going to be fun. Especially if there are steps involved (DJ’S CHARGE MORE FOR STEPS!! I call it a level of effort fee, LOL)
