Enjoy the May 2024 edition of “Behind the Wedding Music,” a resource to help build wedding playlists for DJs.

Each month we will highlight new songs and include a line of song lyrics, a description of the song’s emotional profile, and a few fun facts — designed to help you advise a wedding couple if they’re looking for something fresh in their playlist.

A few newly released wedding songs from April 2024:

    Friday

    The Chainsmokers, Fridayy

    April 26, 2024

A wedding doesn’t have to be on Friday to play this mood-setting track as guests arrive.

Notable Lyrics: “There’s nothing that’s stopping us / It’s just like we’re young in love / Don’t care if we crash / Having the time of your life”

Fun Facts: The song features the artists having winter fun in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The song is a self-dubbed Part 2 of their smash hit ‘Roses‘ released in 2015. Fridayy is a Grammy-nominated R&B singer/songwriter. If you wish to see Chainsmokers live, they have a residency in Las Vegas at XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club – at the Wynn.

    All I Want Is You

    The Decemberists

    April 24, 2024

A folk-rock love song that could highlight any romantic moment like a first dance.

Notable Lyrics: “Drag me to your altar / When my footing falters / All I want is / All I want is you”

Fun Facts: The song will be featured on their upcoming album ‘As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again’ set for June 14, 2024. The Decemberists are currently on tour with dates in Canada and then move to the United States through the beginning of August.

The song has a jubilant love hype that could be used as an introduction song – particularly for the newlyweds.

Notable Lyrics: “I feel love for the first time / And I know that it’s true / Me and you, I could love you for life”

Fun Facts: The song follows “Whatever” with Eva Max who has already amassed more than 177 million streams. The music video features wedding proposals and wedding ceremonies submitted by fans. Kygo’s gearing up for his first tour in six years making stops in 13 countries and 33 cities.

A retro dance mix with a modern twist for partygoers.

Notable Lyrics: I’m like, ‘My, oh, my, baby, this my kinda night’ / Flashin’ lights up on my body, feels like ’90s paparazzi / I’m like, ‘My, oh, my, baby, this my kinda night’”
