Enjoy the February 2024 edition of “Behind the Wedding Music,” a resource to help build wedding playlists for DJs.

Each month we will highlight new songs and include a line of song lyrics, a description of the song’s emotional profile, and a few fun facts — designed to help you advise a wedding couple if they’re looking for something fresh in their playlist.

A few newly released wedding songs from January 2024:

    Electric Energy

Ariana DeBose, Boy George & Nile Rodgers

    January 26, 2024

Disco is not dead. This disco beat will have everyone on the dance floor!

Notable Lyrics: “Send it from my fingers to my feet / Aim that light, and shine it down on me / Electric energy / Give it to me”

Fun Facts: The song is playing during the end credits of the new film ‘Argylle’ (part of the Kingsman franchise). The music video features the film’s cast including DeBose, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson.

    Spin You Around (1/24)

    Morgan Wallen

    January 26, 2024

A beautiful slow country love song made for a first dance.

Notable Lyrics: “Spin you around, and round this dance floor / Get you drunk on a love like mine / Might wind up and steal a couple kisses”

Fun Facts: Wallen re-recorded and released a version of “Spin You Around” this past month. Why? He discovered his previous label and managers were releasing an unauthorized edition of his 2015 EP, ‘Stand Alone’.

    Selfish

    Justin Timberlake

    January 25, 2024

A new hit after a long hiatus that DJs can play as the doors open to the reception hall.

Notable Lyrics: “’Cause your lips were made for mine / And my heart would go flatline / If it wasn’t beatin’ for you all the time”

Fun Facts: This is the first JT solo single released in more than five years. Timberlake debuted the song live at a free hometown concert in Memphis on Jan. 19th. With the release of the song, Britney Spears’s 2011 song “Selfish” had fan support and the song reached #1 on the US iTunes chart.

    Spicy Margarita

    Jason Derulo, Michael Bublé

    January 25, 2024

Older and younger audiences will appreciate this flavorful song.

Notable Lyrics: “You’re my spicy margarita, babe / Burn my tongue, make me shake / Mix it up or give it to me straight”

Fun Facts: “Spicy Margarita” samples the song “Sway” originally released by Dean Martin in 1954. Bublé also covered the song in 2003 on his self-titled album. Bublé and Derulo even attempted to break the world record by creating the biggest Spicy Margarita. They shared the details on TikTok.

    All Night Long

Kungs, David Guetta & Izzy Bizu

    January 19, 2024

A dance track with a great beat for setting a mood for a good time.

Notable Lyrics: “Hold me, baby, drive me crazy / Touch me all night long / Make me love you / kiss and hug you / Touch me all night long”

Fun Facts: The song samples the 1984 track “Touch Me (All Night Long)” by Wish and Fonda Rae. You also may remember the hit “Touch Me (All Night Long)” by Cathy Dennis in 1990. The track’s star DJs, Kungs and David Guetta, are French.

    Rest Of My Life

Jonas Blue, Sam Feldt, Endless Summer & Sadie Rose Van

    January 19, 2024

An electronic dance track about finding your true love!

Notable Lyrics: “I’ll be left by your side ’til the break of day / And I’ll dance with you here in the rain / ‘Cause I’m gonna love you for the rest of my life”

Fun Facts: Jonas Blue performed the new song at the Ministry of Sound in London.

Fun Facts: The song is the first to be released from her upcoming seventh studio album ‘Eternal Sunshine’ expected March 8th. “yes, and?” is inspired by Madonna’s 1990 single “Vogue”. However, the music video was inspired by Paula Abdul’s 1989 hit “Cold Hearted”.
