    Enjoy the November 2023 edition of “Behind the Wedding Music,” a resource to help build wedding playlists for DJs.

    Each month we will highlight new songs and include a line of song lyrics, a description of the song’s emotional profile, and a few fun facts — designed to help you advise a wedding couple if they’re looking for something fresh in their playlist.

    Still Believe In Love

    A meaningful mid-tempo song signifying that love will come along.

    Notable Lyrics: “To see you happy, be a blessing / Guessing no more stressing / Yes, me and you was destined”

    Fun Facts: This is the first released by Blige since the release of her 2022 and 14th studio LP ‘Good Morning Gorgeous’. “Still Believe In Love” is Blige’s first track since her Anderson Paak collaboration single “Here With Me”. The Grammy-nominated song peaked at #4 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, marking her 25th top 10 hit on the chart.

    Fun Facts: In 2023 Tauny won a Grammy at the 65th awards show for Best Música Urbana Album – Un Verano Sin Ti. Álvaro Díaz, a 27 year-old rapper from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

     

    Waterfall (I Adore You)

    A beautiful slow love song for any wedding day.

    Notable Lyrics: “Did they mention the pride before the fall? / (‘Cause I would risk it all for you) / What they say ’bout the writings on the wall? / (No clue, baby, I adore you)”

    Fun Facts: Drake and Yebba are friends. Drake even sampled the song on his track “Polar Opposites”, the last track on his latest album, ‘For All The Dogs’. Drake in an Instagram Stories post playfully demanded Yebba to drop the song.

     

    A Night To Remember

    A pop-infused Bossa Nova track made for cocktail hour or as a background song.

    Notable Lyrics: “All wrapped up in embers / It was a night, enchanting night / To remember”

    Fun Facts: Laufey is an Icelandic-Chinese jazz singer. Just so you don’t make a mistake, her name is pronounced in English as lay-vay. Beabadoobee toured as the opening act for Taylor Swift on her historic “Eras Tour”.

     

    Dreaming

    Marshmello, P!NK, Sting

    An EDM dance cover for a unique song for walking down the aisle.

    Notable Lyrics: “We’ll keep dreamin’ / Dreamin’ ’til the sun goes down / We’ll keep dancin’ / Dancin’ as the world turns ’round”

    Fun Facts: The song samples Sting’s hit “Fields of Gold”. The collaboration of three unique artists was primarily by the works of Marshmello. Marshmello released a cookbook titled Cooking with Marshmello. He showcases his cooking talents on his TikTok and YouTube channels.

     

    In The City

    Charli XCX, Sam Smith

    An EDM dance hit about finding the people you truly love.

    Notable Lyrics: “I never thought I would find it / But I found what I was lookin’ for”

    Fun Facts: The song peaked at #6 on the Billboard US Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart. In case you missed it, Smith collaborated with Calvin Harris a couple of months back on the song “Desire”.

     

    I’ll Be There

    Robin Schulz, Rita Ora & Tiago PZK

    A song about being there for each other that can be used as an exit song.

    Notable Lyrics: “You know in the ups and downs, I’ll be there / When the lights go out, I’ll be there / In the coldest hour, I’ll be there for you”

    Fun Facts: Schulz is one of Germany’s most successful musicians, dominating charts with numerous #1 hits in over 20 countries. His immense popularity has amassed an astonishing 12 billion streams worldwide. Schulz even has his own 24/7 radio station on I Love Music.

     

    Pretty Girl

    A fun party collaboration of Hip Hop and Afrobeats.

    Notable Lyrics: “Yeah, pretty gyal, me no do no kiss and tell / As long as you treat me well, I will treat you more than gem”

    Fun Facts: Ice Spice won Best New Artist at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. She also won Breakthrough Hip-Hop Artist Award at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards. Rema and Selena Gomez won the first-ever Afrobeats MTV VMA at the 2023 awards show.

     

    You Plus Me

    Plain White T’s

    A love song for any moment of a wedding day.

    Notable Lyrics: “You know what I’m going to say before my mouth even makes a sound / And that’s why we make a good you and me”

    Fun Facts: The recording of the song is very raw and stripped down – on purpose. The band played at The Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas the same weekend as the When We Were Young Festival headlined by Green Day and blink-182. See the band doing their cross-country tour starting in 2024 through mid-February.

     

    It Takes 3

    Pitbull, Vikina

    October 6, 2023

    A party dance track to get the party started.

    Notable Lyrics: “It takes two to make a tango, right? / But it takes three to meet outside”

    Fun Facts: The song samples “It Takes Two” by Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock. The song is featured on Pitbull’s latest album ‘Trackhouse’. It is the first album in four years! Be sure to check out Pitbull who is currently on tour and will end the year in Atlantic City on New Year’s Eve.
