    Enjoy the June 2023 edition of “Behind the Wedding Music,” a resource to help build wedding playlists for DJs. Each month we will highlight new songs and include a line of song lyrics, a description of the song’s emotional profile, and a few fun facts — designed to help you advise a wedding couple if they’re looking for something fresh in their playlist.

    With beats found at raves and celestial singing combine for a surefire dance hit.

    Notable Lyrics: “And if you’re feeling like there’s no one else / If you search around to find yourself / Say “I don’t wanna live without love”

    Fun Facts: This is not the first collab. Guetta remixed Shouse’s track “Love Tonight” having more than 300 million streams on Spotify. In just a few weeks, “Live Without Love” is already approaching 5 million Spotify streams. Guetta is ranked #4 most streamed artist on Spotify globally, with over 35 billion global streams.

    The song tells the story of two friends in the pursuit of love.

    Notable Lyrics: “Told you for the thousandth time, you should be the one for me / Should I stay here tonight? Baby, you decide / Hopin’ you’d be the one”

    Fun Facts: Bree Runway performed at European stops on Lizzo’s Special Tour. Bree Runway describes her music as “genre-bending” with a host of genres including; pop, trap, dance, R&B, rock, and hyperpop. Khalid is currently touring with Ed Sheeran on his Mathematics Tour.

    JUMPIN

    Pitbull & Lil Jon

    A party jam that will get everyone excited.

    Notable Lyrics: “Hold up / 3, 2, 1, Let’s go now! / We don’t pull up til the party jumpin!”

    Fun Facts: The song samples “Jump Around” by House of Pain. The song will be featured on Pibull’s upcoming album titled ‘Trackhouse; due out later this year. Side note, Trackhouse Racing is a professional stock car auto racing organization that currently competes in the NASCAR Cup Series. The team is co-owned by Pitbull.

    Rita Ora feat. Fatboy Slim

    A fun hit song to get people on the dance floor.

    Notable Lyrics: “And who knew love would leave me feelin’ this good? / I have to praise you like I should”

    Fun Facts: The song sampled Fatboy Slim’s “Praise You” from 1999. The song is set to be released on Ora’s new album You & I’ this summer. Ora co-wrote every song on the album. Ora’s husband directed the music video which has a cameo of Fatboy Slim.

    Grupo Frontera & Bad Bunny

    A norteño group collabs with a Latin music superstar – and everyone is listening.

    Notable Lyrics: “I haven’t thought about you in a long time / Drunk, your Insta I checked / Baby, I already know that you are doing well”

    Fun Facts: The song is Grupo Frontera’s fourth top 10. Bad Bunny continues his record of more than sixty top 10 hits. The song generated 20 million U.S. streams in the first week. Three weeks after its release, the song still ranks #2 on Billboard’s Latin Streaming Songs chart.

    Loving You

    The alternative/electro-pop band’s song has cool vibes as guests arrive at the reception.

    Notable Lyrics: “Can you hear the voices calling? / I was made for loving you / Don’t be scared, we’re only falling”

    Fun Facts: You may better know the Cannons from their monster hit titled “Fire For You” which is RIAA-certified Gold and reached #1 on Alternative radio. You can catch the band on their Heartbeat Highway Tour on select dates starting near the end of August.

    Esta Vida

    Marshmello & Farruko

    A collaboration of two superstars with a party anthem.

    Notable Lyrics: “Marshmello / We taking over / Are you ready?”

    Fun Facts: “Esta Vida” is one of the biggest reggaeton songs thus far on the charts in 2023. The title translated to “This Life”. The song debuted as the final song in Mashmello’s headliner set at the Ultra Music Festival.

    Dance With You

    Brett Young

    A beautiful love song made for a slow dance like the first dance.

    Notable Lyrics: “They say, “Life’s a dance” / And if that’s the truth / I only wanna dance with you”

    Fun Facts: You can hear the song on Young’s 5 Tour 3 2 1 Tour currently happening. He is performing with other artists including Ashley Cooke, Priscilla Block, and Kelsea Ballerini’s ex-husband Morgan Evans.

    Baby Don’t Hurt Me

    David Guetta, Anne-Marie, Coi Leray

    Another party starter has 90s dance music and modern EDM fans singing along.

    Notable Lyrics: “What is love? / Baby, don’t hurt me / Don’t hurt me, no more”

    Fun Facts: The song samples the 1993 dance hit “What is Love?’ by Haddaway. Guetta premiered the song on the mainstage at Ultra Music Festival and was joined by Coi Leray. The song is a follow-up to “I’m Good (Blue)” which has more than 1.5 billion global streams.

    Love You Anyway

    A soulful love song for any wedding moment.

    Notable Lyrics: “We’re all broken / Cracks in our hearts / Let hope in / Light in the dark / And I’m gonna love you anyway

    Fun Facts: Gilfillian is currently on tour in European and American cities. He got his start after moving to Nashville from Pennsylvania and put an ad on Craigslist looking for musicians to jam with.
