[Exclusive] Slushii Breaks Down New Album, “A Slushii Summer”

Always one to be spending some serious time in the studio, Slushii has made a lasting impression on the summer of 2022 dropping 13 originals over 13 consecutive weeks with all the tracks coming together to create his new album, A Slushii Summer.

Wasting no time after releasing his critically acclaimed album E.L.E (Extinction Level Event) to start the year, the production mastermind’s sixth studio album showcases his growth as an artist with no genres being off limits when it comes to his electrifying 15-track offering which ventures into the realms of Dubstep, Future Bass, Trap, Drum & Bass, Future House and more!

Now that the steady barrage of new music is complete and A Slushii Summer has been released to the world in its entirety, Slushii took the time to deliver a track-by-track breakdown of his latest body of work. Check it out below!

“I had never released this many songs at once ever. It was an experiment. It was nice being untethered by traditional album rules and being able to put something out for every single week of summer!” Slushii explains.

    Forever With U

It’s very similar to previous songs I’ve released in that it’s very “bubble gum” sounding, and it takes a lot of influence from Anime.

    Feels Like

We actually wrote it in an hour at a studio – it was initially going to be a sapientdream song but the vocals ended up ramping up the vibes of the record so we decided to put it on Slushii Summer.

    I Don’t Miss U

This is very “Out of Light” era and it’s a very similar to that style. And the vocals are mine!

    Smoke

We had the vocal sitting around for a little while, but the song really started coming together when I added the guitar loop. I think it’s the poppiest song on the album. It’s another one of my pop experimentations.

    H8 December

Two very well-known Slushii collaborators on this one – it was a perfect mix of all three of our sounds. In the session, it was like watching magic happen.

    Push It

Push It is a song I wrote with Bok Nero and Nitro Fun. I had wanted to work with Nitro Fun for a while – I sent him the initial demo and we went back and forth and we landed on a perfect fusion of both of our sounds.

    We’re Falling

This is a song that originally was a sapientdream song – Hook N Sling and I did our own interpretation of the song and added a clubby, ethereal vibe to it.

    Home 2 Me

Home to me is one of my favorite songs on the album just because it feels like what I want the future of Slushii to sound like.

    Pick Yourself Up

Another song in the “future Slushii” category. It’s my take on future bass mixed with 80s drums and more of me trying out a poppy formula.

    Like I Used To

I didn’t even write it about anything in particular, but I imagined it would be about wanting to be alone and independent in life. That’s how I think of the line “I just want to be solo.”

    Summer Lasts Forever

That’s actually the last song we finished for the whole project. It’s just a really weird, warm beat and it has this mystical, top of the world, euphoric feel to it. The vocals really take it to that next level. And it feels like a victory lap to “Slushii Summer.”

    Forgive Me

This is just textbook Slushii dubstep with a sprinkle of hip-hop influence.

    Villainy

Getting to work with Gold and Dr. Ozi and Mikey and working with all of them and making this crazy, ignorant dubstep record is a really cool opportunity to meld a bunch of worlds together and make a really cool record with some of my friends.

    Blow The Socket

Blow The Socket is awesome because it’s one of my first real drum and bass tracks. It’s always been a dream for me to work on a song with these artists.

    Young & Lit

Getting to work with softest hard on a record was really fun because I’m a fan of her musical style and we play Fortnite a lot together, so it’s nice to release a record together!
