Enjoy the September 2022 edition of “Behind the Wedding Music,” a resource to help build wedding playlists for DJs. Each month we will highlight new songs and include a line of song lyrics, a description of the song’s emotional profile, and a few fun facts — designed to help you advise a wedding couple if they’re looking for something fresh in their playlist.

A few newly released wedding songs from August 2022:

    Hold Me Closer

    Elton John, Britney Spears
    August 26, 2022

A dance remake of the song “Tiny Dancer”.

Notable Lyrics: “I saw you dancin’ out the ocean / Runnin’ fast along the sand / A spirit born of earth and water”

Fun Facts: “Hold Me Closer” debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #6. The song gives John his 29th and Spears her 14th top 10 charting song. John is currently on his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” goodbye tour, which is set to end on July 8, 2023, in Stockholm, Sweden.

    No Body
    Blake Shelton
    August 19, 2022

A new country line dance song.

Notable Lyrics: “Get straight tequila drunk on nobody / Wrap these arms around nobody / No body, but yours”

Fun Facts: The music video is a throwback to the ‘90s with Shelton in a mullet with dancers scooting in a line dance format. The song has lyrical references to Brooks & Dunn’s “Boot Scootin’ Boogie”.

Make Me Say It Again, Girl

    The Isley Brothers, Beyoncé
    August 12, 2022

A slow song for classic R&B fans with a Queen Bey twist.

Notable Lyrics: “Make me say it again girl / Make me say it again boy / You’re all i need”

Fun Facts: Beyoncé released Renaissance last month. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart – Beyoncé’s seventh consecutive album to do so. The Isley Brothers’s last single was released in 2021 about coming together after the pandemic titled “Friends & Family” featuring Snoop Dogg.

    Bridesmaids
    Tyra Madison
    August 12, 2022

A special song made for bridesmaids to walk down the aisle to.

Notable Lyrics: “Your ride or die, your tribe who picked you up along the way / ‘Cause you never would’ve made it to this day / Without your bridesmaids”

Fun Facts: On Madison’s Instagram profile, she is challenging fans to tag Madison with posts of their bridesmaids. Through her profile link, you can request to be in the “Bridesmaids” video.

    Super Freaky Girl
    Nicki Minaj
    August 12, 2022

A hip-hop party song sampling Rick James’ “Super Freak”.

Notable Lyrics: (Warning: lyrics are explicit)

Fun Facts: Minaj was just awarded the Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. “Super Freaky Girl” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is the first hip-hop song by a female artist (without accompaniment) to do so since Ms. Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.

    You (Acoustic)
    Dan + Shay
    August 10, 2022

An acoustic version of the already popular wedding song.

Notable Lyrics: “I always, always, always give in to you / I know that when I try to fight it, I lose / I always, always, always give in to you”

Fun Facts: The duo shared an iPhone recorded acoustic guitar version on Facebook. It is only 1 minute long. That was October 2021. Too bad the full version was released long after many weddings took place this year.

    All She Wanna Do
    John Legend feat. Saweetie
    August 5, 2022

A dance tune available with Legend as a solo or with a Saweetie remix.

Notable Lyrics: “I told her, “You’re the love of my night” / I won’t stop ’til you’re the love of my life / I won’t stop ’til you’re the one that I’m takin’ home”

Fun Facts: The music video features dancers responding to a casting call not realizing they were going to be in the actual video! The song is featured on Lengend’s new album Legend released September 9th. You can catch Legend at his Las Vegas residency inside Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood in October.

    HISTORY
    Joel Corry & Becky Hill
    August 5, 2022

An EDM dance anthem because the wedding couple was “meant to be”.

Notable Lyrics: “You’re the only one that knows me better / Than I do / It’s the past that always brings us back together / ‘Cause we got so much history / Here with you is where I’m meant to be”

Fun Facts: Corry has residencies in both Ibiza ( Ibiza Rocks) and Las Vegas (Marquee Nightclub inside the Cosmopolitan). Becky Hill grew her fan base after being a contestant on The Voice UK.

    Bad Decisions
benny blanco & BTS & Snoop Dogg
    August 5, 2022

A dance hit blending EDM, K-pop, and Hip Hop.

Notable Lyrics: “I can’t seem to ever get you out of my mind / And it feels like, ooh, ah / I want you, ooh, baby, all of the time”

Fun Facts: Check out the official video as Blanco plays a super-fan of BTS and a member of the ARMY. The song features four BTS members: Jin, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. However, no members make an appearance in the video.

    Lover of Mine
    Louyah
    August 5, 2022

A perfect song to tell someone you love them.

Notable Lyrics: “’Cause lover of mine, you shine / You know I will care / For a love like this is rare”

Fun Facts: Louyah had his song “You” go viral on TikTok. It was featured in vdeos of couples telling each other “I Love You”. More than 45,000 have done so on Instagram and 22,000 on TikTok.  “You” is on his 2021 album “6 Feet.”.
