Enjoy the June 2022 edition of “Behind the Wedding Music,” a resource to help build wedding playlists for DJs. Each month we will highlight new songs and include a line of song lyrics, a description of the song’s emotional profile, and a few fun facts — designed to help you advise a wedding couple if they’re looking for something fresh in their playlist.

A few newly released wedding songs from May 2022:

    One Life
    Ed Sheeran
    May 27, 2022

If you are looking for a new marriage proposal song, the lyrics fit perfectly.

Notable Lyrics: “Just to make it right / So I’ll ask you (tonight) / Will you marry me? Just say yes”

Fun Facts: The song describes Sheeran’s nervousness before his proposal to his wife Cherry in the garden of their Suffolk, UK home. They were eventually married in 2019.  The song was released on the Deluxe version of the “Equals” album.

    Potion
Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa, Young Thug
    May 27, 2022

A mix of EDM, Pop, and Rap collide into a midtempo groove to set the mood for fun.

Notable Lyrics: “In the whip on a Tuesday night, got the music high / And you by my side, side”

Fun Facts: Scottish DJ Calvin Harris will release his first album in five years titled “Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2” this summer. Volume 1 was released in 2017. This will be his sixth studio album. You can catch Calvin Harris live in Las Vegas in September at the “Life is Beautiful Festival”.

    Take My Name (Wedding Version)
    Parmalee
    May 20, 2022

An acoustic cover of the popular country song speaking of getting married,

Notable Lyrics: “I’m through waiting, taking my time / Never felt like this before / Take my name and make it yours”

Fun Facts: The original song currently charts at #8 on the iTunes Country chart and has more than 45 million streams on Spotify. Their previous pop-country wedding-appropriate song “Just The Way” topped the country charts!

    Stay the Night
    Sigala, Talia Mar
    May 20, 2022

Electronic music fans have an instant summer party song hit!

Notable Lyrics: “Stay the night / Baby, we can bring the music back to life / Just you and I”

Fun Facts: Sigala is a London-based DJ and producer. Sigala’s most-streamed song on Spotify is “Easy Love” with more than 316 million streams and samples the Jackson 5’s song “ABC”.

    Too Much
    Mark Ronson, Lucky Daye
    May 13, 2022

A midtempo song that merges disco, soul, and funk for a smooth jam.

Notable Lyrics: “I can be your antidote / What you need / Know you wanna let it go / It’s about time / Can we get a dance alone?”

Fun Facts: “Too Much” was created in partnership with Audemars Piguet, a Swiss watch manufacturer, as part of their Syncing Sounds series on YouTube. Ronson and Daye appear in the series’ 2nd episode, in which they share insights into their song-making process and clips of them creating ‘Too Much’.

    One Day Tonight
    Noah Thompson
    May 13, 2022

A midtempo country song to set the summer season full of love.

Notable Lyrics: “She wants a wedding in September / Saved up all winter / Spend our summers in a fixer upper in Denver”

Fun Facts: Thompson won season 20 of the TV show American Idol. The song was released just before winning on the show’s finale. An estimated 5.6 million people watched Thompson take home the winning prize.

    Wildest Dreams (Cover)
    Dallas String Quartet
    May 13, 2022

The song is an orchestral string arrangement of Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams”.

This is an instrumental song so no lyrics – perfect for any wedding ceremony.

Fun Facts: Dallas String Quartet performed at the wedding of Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton. Stefani pushed for DSQ to perform some of the music couple’s original songs. If you are a Bridgerton fan, then you will love the Bridgerton-themed video.

    Move
    DNCE
    May 6, 2022

A great pop-dance hit to get people in the mood to move on the dance floor and dance (puns intended).

Notable Lyrics: “Grab that drink and meet me on the dancefloor, baby / Let’s get crazy, move, baby, move”

Fun Facts: DNCE, led by Jonas Brothers’ brother Joe Jonas, released their first song in four years. The band also appeared on the recently released Kygo song “Dancing Feet” which has already amassed more than 54 million streams on Spotify.

Fun Facts: Ghanaian music icon, Stonebwoy, recently signed a music distribution deal with Def Jam Recordings and Universal Music Africa. He has nearly 700,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. “Therapy” was produced by IzyBeats.

    Hold My Hand
    Lady Gaga
    May 3, 2022

The slow song pays tribute to the original Top Gun ballad “Take My Breath Away” by Berlin.

Notable Lyrics: “You don’t need to show me again / But if you decide to, I’ll ride in this life with you / I won’t let go ’til the end”

Fun Facts: Top Gun: Maverick set the record for the biggest opening weekend overtaking previous record holder Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. Tom Cruise allegedly fired Twenty One Pilots from the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack before Lady Gaga joined.
