This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight, presented by QSC, shines on DJ IMMS (Imer Alibegic) of Laketree Entertainment from Boise, Idaho.
DJ IMMS is this week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday spotlight. Presented by QSC, DJ IMMS (Imer Alibegic), mobile DJ & founder of Laketree Entertainment is based out of Boise, Idaho. For DJ IMMS, the path into DJing didn’t start with a long-term plan – it all started with a simple favor. What began as a one-time wedding request quickly sparked something bigger, and within weeks, word spread as more people asked him to bring that same energy to their events. Trusting his instincts, he made a leap, invested in professional gear, and committed fully to building something real.
Now six years into the journey, DJ IMMS has transformed that unexpected beginning into a full-fledged career built on meaningful experiences, elevated production, and a focus on how music can shape memories. From weddings and corporate events to pop-ups and opportunities that have taken him across the country, he’s carved out a growing presence as a mobile DJ who takes pride in both the sound and the atmosphere he creates.
When DJ LIFE spoke with IMMS regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…
DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?
DJ IMMS: About six years ago, some close friends unexpectedly asked me to DJ their wedding. At the time, I had a deep passion for music and messed around with mixes, but it was just for fun, and I never saw it as anything bigger.
About a month later, a few other people heard about it and asked me to do theirs as well. In that moment, a strong gut feeling told me I needed to take this seriously and go all in—so that’s exactly what I did. I invested thousands in brand-new equipment on a whim, hoping it would work out. Fortunately, it did in ways I never could’ve imagined.
Over the past six years, that decision has turned into a career that has challenged me, shaped me, and given me the opportunity to be part of some incredible moments in people’s lives. Along with working with local companies, sports teams, private events, and opportunities that have taken me traveling the country, it’s been an amazing ride.
Looking back, I’m deeply thankful that one unexpected “yes” turned into a journey that has given me purpose, connection, and a chance to serve people through something I genuinely love. And it’s just the beginning.
DJ LIFE: What does being a mobile DJ mean to you?
DJ IMMS: In general, you quickly discover being a mobile DJ means far more to me than just showing up with equipment and playing music. I think connection is, and should always be, the primary focus as a DJ. People may remember certain songs, mixes, or transitions, but more than anything, they’ll remember how you made them feel.
Without a doubt, it has taught me the value and understanding of how much energy and intention can shape an experience and make a real impact on people’s lives.
DJ LIFE: Can you tell us about your current DJ setup?
DJ IMMS: I just switched my DJ setup to center around an all-white Pioneer DDJ-FLX10, paired with QSC KC12 speakers and a ProX podium. I love this setup because it offers the perfect balance of clean aesthetics, professional sound, and reliability.
I’ve been using the K12s for about six years now, and last week I upgraded to the KC12s, which have been an awesome step forward. Whether I’m performing at a wedding, a corporate event, or a smaller pop-up, it makes every event feel elevated, and I want both the experience and the visual presence to reflect that.
DJ LIFE: How has being a DJ impacted your personal/family life?
DJ IMMS: Being a DJ has impacted my life in a deeply meaningful way. Truly, I never could have imagined this would become part of my life, let alone my career. To now be in a position where I get to do this professionally is something for which I carry a surreal level of gratitude.
The freedom that comes with being my own boss definitely has its own expectations and responsibilities, but it has been incredibly rewarding to build something that reflects who I am and brings out the best and happiest version of me.
DJ LIFE: What are some of the biggest pros and cons of being a mobile DJ?
DJ IMMS: Oh, by far the biggest pro is hands down the feedback—especially weddings. Hearing from couples and parents about how you made one of the biggest days of their lives memorable and special… that feeling is unmatched. On top of that, hearing from the couple that their guests are still talking about their wedding years later just makes me want to continue going above and beyond for every wedding, every single time.
I would also add that the freedom of being self-employed and building my own company has been an absolutely epic experience.
The number one con is turning people away due to already being booked for their date. For sure, it’s a great problem to have, and one I’m very grateful for, but it’s a huge bummer turning down opportunities to celebrate with people!
(Jokingly)… and I guess not being able to always watch LSU play on Saturdays.
