Mobile Monday DJ Spotlight: DJ Buck Rodgers

This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight shines on Midwestern-turned-Texas-resident, Jordan Rodgers, a.k.a. DJ Buck Rodgers.

Jordan “Buck” Rodgers, hailing from Midwestern USA and now resident Texan, has been a mobile DJ from a young age. Quickly separating himself from the others of his kind, Rodgers possesses an innate ability to capture an audience by fluidly switching between being one of the premier MPC finger drummers in the world, to a master turntablist with the flick of the wrist.

When it comes to his current DJ setup, and ideal setup, Rodgers says: “I’m a big fan of modular setups, and hacking EVERYTHING! from my power strips, to cables, I’m kind of a D.I.Y nerd that makes a lot of my mobile rig setups. Also, I’m kind of spoiled seeing how I usually make the client provide the backline, especially when traveling to different cities. Also less is more! I try to keep things as minimal as possible or outsource specific things the client would need or want.”

Among his numerous competition wins, some of the most notable include 2018 Goldie wards Beat Battle world champion, as well as the 2015 Red Bull Thre3Style South Region Champion/U.S. finalist, among others. His go-to genres include EDM, Top 40, hip hop, trap, and bass.

Buck Rodgers performs at Red Bull Thre3Style, in New Orleans, LA, USA, on 21 February, 2015.

As far his favorite or go-to gear, Buck says: “Something that I always have with me would be my Native Instruments Maschine Mk3, or Maschine +.  I love incorporating live elements in my sets, and this is something that’s always in my repertoire.”

DJ LIFE also wanted to know some of the pros and cons Buck faces as a mobile DJ, including, “pros of being a mobile DJ would be the ability to name your own price and know your value. Granted, I’ve been a mobile/club DJ for over 20 years, but knowing your value and what separates you from the rest is definitely a pro in my opinion.” As for the cons, he reveals: “You will get some clients that are very over the top with requests, or family members who feel entitled at times, but it is your job to accommodate their needs. However, a true professional will know all the workarounds and usually have dealt with similar scenarios from past events. This is why I always have a questionnaire for any mobile events to help assist with the clients’ needs and requests.”
