This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight, presented by QSC, shines on Mariah Hay from Central Coast, California.
Mariah Hay is this week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday spotlight. Presented by QSC, Mariah is a mobile DJ based out of Central Coast, California.
Sometimes the many roles and responsibilities of a mobile DJ are overlooked, but we sat down with Mariah Hay to discuss how she got her start as a DJ and what choosing a career in the field means to her. Getting her start with Kramer Events, she’s always been drawn to the art of event planning – and when you add DJing to the mix, it allows her the perfect opportunity to combine music, energy, and hosting into one experience.
Hay reveals: “Being a mobile DJ means having the incredible opportunity to bring energy, joy, and unforgettable vibes to a wide variety of celebrations” – and especially weddings and pool parties. We also took the chance to discuss her current DJ setup, dream setup, favorite gear that she’s currently using, and important life lessons that have stuck with her thus far in her career.
All this and more can be found in our DJ LIFE Q&A with Mariah Hay, below.
DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?
Hay: I got my start in DJing through Kramer Events, which is home to some of the best wedding DJs and MCs on California’s Central Coast. I’ve always been drawn to the art of event planning—small scale to large scale events—and DJing gave me the perfect way to combine music, energy, and hosting into one experience. It’s been an amazing journey learning what it takes to create unforgettable moments for every crowd.
DJ LIFE: What does being a mobile DJ mean to you?
Mariah Hay: Being a mobile DJ means having the incredible opportunity to bring energy, joy, and unforgettable vibes to a wide variety of celebrations—especially weddings and pool parties. I get to be the soundtrack to people’s most cherished memories. It’s rewarding to see the dance floor light up and know I helped create those special moments.
DJ LIFE: Can you tell us about your current DJ setup?
Hay: My current DJ setup features a sleek white podium stand paired with the Rane Four controller—it’s clean, modern, and perfect for weddings and upscale events. But the real standout addition has been the QSC KC12 speakers. Not only do they look incredible with their white finish—people constantly ask if they came with the podium—they also deliver outstanding sound. The clarity, punch, and coverage have completely elevated my performances, whether I’m at a beachside wedding or a high-energy pool party. They’re a true game changer.
DJ LIFE: What would your perfect or dream setup look like?
Hay: My dream DJ setup at a larger venue would definitely include QSC KW Series speakers for that powerful, full-range sound that fills the room. I’d add warm, colorful ambient lighting to set the mood, a stylish but functional DJ booth, my Rane 4, and—most importantly—a great crowd ready to dance the night away. And of course, I’m not stepping behind the decks without a pair of comfortable shoes!
DJ LIFE: Do you have any favorite or new gear that you’re currently using?
Hay: Right now, I’m loving the new QSC KC12 speakers. They’ve completely streamlined my setup, especially during load-in and teardown. What really stands out is how lightweight the sub section is—it’s noticeably easier to transport compared to even smaller subwoofers I’ve used in the past. The combination of powerful sound and portability has made a huge difference at weddings and parties. It’s one of those upgrades where you feel the impact at every gig.
DJ LIFE: What is the most important life lesson you have gained from your experience as a DJ?
Hay: One of the biggest life lessons I’ve learned as a DJ is that it’s not just about playing great music—it’s about being the steady presence that helps guide the energy of an event. Having a reliable setup and a deep understanding of why we’re really here—to celebrate love, connection, and community—keeps me grounded. It’s a reminder that we’re making a real impact through our work.
One moment that really stuck with me was a wedding where the bride wanted to honor her late father with a surprise tribute dance. When the music started, you could feel the energy shift. It was beautiful, heartfelt, and unforgettable. Afterward, she told me it was one of the most meaningful moments of her day. This work goes far beyond the music—we’re helping to create memories that last a lifetime.
