After having herself quite the unforgettable 2022, SOHMI looks to keep her hot streak alive as we enter the new year with the release of “Only One.”
Adding to her overgrowing discography, the budding talent continues to showcase her undeniable prowess as a singer, songwriter, and producer with a dreamy offering diven by sultry vocals, fluttering melodies and booming basslines.
“I love that the final form of this song turned out so dreamy and feel-good, because it originally came from such a place of longing and sadness. I was stuck at home back in Korea quite sick with Covid, going on two weeks of government-imposed self-quarantine and isolation from my family who I had come to visit for the holidays and I just felt so helpless not to be able to spend any of the time with them that I had traveled so far to spend. The hook, “what do I do if I’m the only one?” came to me all of a sudden during one of the seemingly endless hours I’d spent locked up in my bedroom, and became the basis for the entire rest of the song. In many ways, the question represents a recurring fear I think we’ve all experienced at one point in our lives or another. And I guess the dreaminess of the song is also ultimately rooted in the escapism I was holding onto at the time for my sanity’s sake, and that feels really real to me,” SOHMI explains.
