Enjoy the September 2023 edition of “Behind the Wedding Music,” a resource to help build wedding playlists for DJs.

Each month we will highlight new songs and include a line of song lyrics, a description of the song’s emotional profile, and a few fun facts — designed to help you advise a wedding couple if they’re looking for something fresh in their playlist.

A few newly released wedding songs from August 2023:

    We Should Get Married

    Dan + Shay

    August 25, 2023

A fun and upbeat country song about getting married in Vegas.

Notable Lyrics: “Oh, we should get married, take it out to Vegas / Find a little chapel, hire us an Elvis / Pink limousine, longhorns on the hood / Drinkin’ champagne out the sunroof”

Fun Facts: The song is featured on their album ‘Bigger Houses’ released on September 15th. The music video was filmed at the famous Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. The chapel hosted celebrity weddings including Ben Afflek & Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Bruce Willis & Demi Moore, and Britney Spears.

I’m Only Me When I’m With You

    Soccer Mommy

    August 25, 2023

An indie rock cover of the Swift song to add an alternative flair to a reception.

Notable Lyrics: “Well, you drive me crazy half the time / The other half, I’m only tryin’ to / Let you know what I feel is true / That I’m only me when I’m with you”

Fun Facts: The song was first released by Taylor Swift in 2006 on her self-titled album. The song will be featured on their EP ‘Karaoke Night’ along with a cover of R.E.M.’s Losing My Religion. The band is currently touring with dates worldwide and select dates with The National.

    So Glad I Found You

    Jalen Ngonda

    August 23, 2023

An R&B love ballad that will remind you of yesteryear with a nu-soul sound.

Notable Lyrics: “So glad I found you / So glad you’re mine / And I’ve got to say, I’m so glad that I found you”

Fun Facts: Jalen released his new album titled ‘Come Around And Love Me’ on September 8th. He resides in the UK but is currently on tour in the U.S. with many dates nationwide. Jalen describes his sound as a fit between the Beatles and the Beach Boys.

    Paul Russell

    August 18, 2023

A trending TikTok dance hit for party time!

Notable Lyrics: “Girl you got me / I’m singing / It’s like / Oh, ooh-oh, ooh, you got the best of my love”

Fun Facts: The song samples “Best Of My Love” by The Emotions – one of the great party songs of all time. The song is on the short side at under 2 minutes. The track has been incorporated into more than 50,000 TikTok posts, including some with millions of views.

Notable Lyrics: “And as long as my heart is beating / I’ll be there with you, please, believe me / You know I’ll love you at your worst”

Fun Facts: The song is astray from his love ballads popular at many weddings.
