Mobile Monday DJ Spotlight: Shannon McKinnon

This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight shines on Shannon McKinnon of ShanSound Entertainment in North Carolina.

DJ LIFE recently sat down with Shannon McKinnon of ShanSound Entertainment to discuss what being a mobile DJ means to him, among other things that pertain to his entertainment business. With ShanSound Entertainment, Shannon provides mobile DJ services, in addition to karaoke, photo booth services, and more.

When we caught up with Shannon, it went a little something like this…

DJ LIFE: What does being a Mobile DJ mean to you?
Shannon: What being a Mobile DJ means to me, is accepting the challenge to create a unique experience for my clients and their guests. My company focuses more on weddings and private events and being based in Eastern North Carolina, my DJing sets can range from Chairman of the Board’s “Carolina Girls” to Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” to Conway Twitty’s “Hello Darlin’.” Being able to read my crowd and getting people that I’ve never met, to fill the dance floor, is not only challenging, but it’s an amazing feeling! And that’s what brings me JOY as a Mobile DJ.

DJ LIFE: What can you share with us about your current DJ setup?

Shannon: As for my current DJ setup, I like to have a setup that’s compact, easy to setup and compliments my client’s theme. My setups usually consist of a set of Turbosound iP2000 v1, Pioneer DDJ-1000SRT, Virtual DJ, Shure BLX wireless microphones, Curved façade with a façade cover that compliments the client’s or venue’s décor, Ape labs W-App and Maxi’s and a Lenovo PC.

DJ LIFE: How about your dream or ideal DJ setup?

Shannon: My ideal DJ setup would be similar to my current setup, with the exception of a set of LD Systems Maui 44 speakers and a Humpter B3 DJ Table.

DJ LIFE: Do you have any favorite/go-to or new gear that you’ve been utilizing lately?

Shannon: I really enjoy using my new set of Blizzard InfiniPix Spektro towers. They’re sleek and puts out a “comfortable” amount of lighting for the dance floor.

DJ LIFE: What are some of the pros and cons of being a mobile DJ?

Shannon: There’s always going to be pros and cons in every industry. My pros of being a Mobile DJ are, preforming in different venues, meeting awesome clients, establishing working relationships with event vendors, and the occasional DJ bathroom mirror selfie..

The cons, I really don’t have many. Sometimes load-ins and parking are a challenge. Weather can either be my friend or foe.
