Joining forces for a collaborative new LP, Fred again.. & Brian Eno release the ambient-inspired Secret Life through Text Records.
Only days after announcing a joint album, Fred again.. & Brian Eno have released their collaborative new LP, Secret Life. The 11-track album, which comes in at just under 45 minutes, is a downtempo body of work that doesn’t focus on the drops, but the beauty within the musicality found within each of songs. Secret Life is simplistic, yet complex in all the right ways. An ambient treat, the album focuses on the beauty found within the music and less on the vocals included throughout. Fred announced on social media that prior to the official release of the album, secretlife.fm had been playing different variations of the LP at 10pm every night.
A Secret Life highlight and fan-favorite, “Enough,” which serves up just over five minutes of bliss, is the focus single from the album — and for all the right reasons. Featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday, “Enough” is a progressively-perfect, emotion-packed tune from start to finish. As a whole, Secret Life may be an ambient masterpiece, yet it still manages to tell a story and takes listeners on a musical journey; a soaring sonic experience. Fred explained that he was excited to release the album with his lifelong mentor and friend, Brian Eno, who he’s actually been working with since he was young. And one thing’s for certain — we’re surely glad that he did.
Quite different from his Actual Life albums, while still embodying elements of his signature release series, Secret Life includes some vocal features and samples we’ve come to love from Fred, just in a slightly different way. The album comes following Fred’s recent closing set at Coachella 2023 weekend two, where he played alongside Skrillex and Four Tet just after headliners Blink-182, at the main stage. The trio performed a 360 in-the-round set for the crowd in the Indio, CA desert (as well as the live stream). And let’s face it — Fred, Skrillex and Four Tet are no strangers to working together, especially since their mini-NYC tour, which included a sold-out headline show at Madison Square Garden.
