This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight, presented by QSC, shines Kristin Hubbard of Our DJ Rocks, based out of Orlando, Florida.

Kristin Hubbard is this week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday spotlight. Presented by QSC, Hubbard serves as DJ & CEO of Our DJ Rocks and Photo Booth Rocks, based out of Orlando, Florida.

As this week’s mobile DJ spotlight, Hubbard has more than 15 years of experience as a mobile DJ. Aside from her work as a DJ, she’s also CEO of two successful DJ-centric businesses, Our DJ Rocks and Photo Booth Rocks.

During our chat with Kristin, we touch on how she got her start as a DJ and what it means to her. From there, we explore Hubbard’s current DJ setup as well as what her dream setup would consist of. In addition to the latest gear or go-to gear of choice for Kristin, we also dive deeper into some of her pet peeves, pros and cons to being a mobile DJ, and how choosing this career path has impacted her personal and family life.

When DJ LIFE spoke with Hubbard regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…

DJ LIFE: What does being a mobile DJ mean to you?
Kristin Hubbard: Being a mobile DJ is about creating moments that last forever. It’s not just about playing music; it’s about connecting with people, lifting spirits, and setting the tone for their most important memories. Every event has its own heartbeat, and I get to be the one who brings it to life. It’s a privilege to step into someone’s world, even for just one night, and leave them with a story they’ll tell for years.

After being a mobile DJ for over 15 years, I’ve lived enough life to see both the fruitful seasons and the dark ones. Losing my dad was one of those dark seasons, and it gave me a deeper understanding of how precious these moments truly are. When I see my clients using their wedding photos to honor someone they’ve lost, it reminds me that what we’re creating goes far beyond just a fun night. These are the moments people hold onto when life changes, and being a part of that is an honor I don’t take lightly.

DJ LIFE: Can you tell us about your current DJ setup?
    Hubbard:
My setup is built for elegance and impact. I use Pioneer DJ controllers paired with Serato for seamless mixing. My lighting rig includes wireless uplights and moving heads to create a dynamic visual experience. I do like to elevate my look depending on the event with some sort of DJ booth and decorative columns. The newest crown jewel of my setup is the QSC KC12 white speakers—sleek, powerful, and absolutely stunning. They’re the perfect blend of form and function, delivering unmatched sound clarity while elevating the aesthetic of any event.

DJ LIFE: What would your perfect or dream setup look like?
    Hubbard:
My dream setup would be an all-in-one, fully wireless system that combines cutting-edge sound and lighting technology with effortless portability. Imagine a stage that evolves in real time, responding to the energy of the crowd. Of course, it would all come in chic blush pink and gold tones to reflect my personal style—because why not add a little glam to the party?

DJ LIFE: Do you have any favorite or new gear that you’re currently using?
Hubbard: Yes! I’m absolutely in love with the QSC KC12 white speakers. Their 3-way design and 3000 watts of peak power make them a game-changer for sound clarity and coverage. Whether it’s a packed dance floor or an intimate wedding ceremony, the sound is clean, rich, and immersive. Plus, their modern white finish complements the vibe of any event. I feel like it’s a dream come true to have a modern white speaker from my favorite audio brand. (Also, I’m obsessed with the Bluetooth feature). They’re everything I didn’t know I needed.

DJ LIFE: What are some of the biggest pros and cons of being a mobile DJ?
Hubbard: The biggest pro? I love being able to take people out of their ordinary or stressful lives—especially when I think about careers like first responders who face intense challenges every day—and let them truly experience living for one night. Creating those moments where people can just let go and feel joy is everything to me.

The con? This is hands-down one of the most stressful jobs out there. We’re creating memories for moments that cannot be remade, so the level of perfection required is on another level. On top of that, it’s both physically and mentally taxing—hauling gear, staying sharp for hours, and juggling the emotions of such a personal and high-stakes industry. It’s a lot to manage, but the reward of knowing we’ve created magic makes it all worth it.

DJ LIFE: Do you have any DJ-related pet peeves?
Hubbard: Oh, definitely. First, let’s talk about the obnoxiously drunk guy who’s convinced that his song request will change the world. He stumbles over, asks for the same terrible song five times, and then just stands there, staring at me, like I’m holding his destiny in my hands. Bro, stop staring at me and let me mix!

And then there’s the classic venue power struggle—literally. Venues that don’t prioritize proper power access are a DJ’s nightmare. It’s like asking a chef to cook without a stove. I mean, sure, I’ll make magic happen, but some electricity would really help!

DJ LIFE: How has being a DJ impacted your personal/family life?
Hubbard: Being a DJ has taught me the importance of balance and cherishing the moments that truly matter. Late nights and weekends are part of the job, which means I’ve missed milestone events for some of my friends over the years. But it’s also made me fiercely intentional about creating memories with the people I love. I mean, I spend my life curating moments for others—it’s only fair that I make sure my own circle gets in on the magic too!

I’m literally that girl in all the travel memes, texting my friends like, “What trip are we planning next?” It’s my way of making sure we have our own unforgettable experiences. In fact, I even have a wall in my house dedicated to “mixtiles”—mini collages of my favorite memories with the people I love most.

At the end of the day, the support of my friends, family, and team is what makes it all possible. They’re my biggest cheerleaders, and they remind me that while I’m creating joy for others, I deserve to have some for myself too.

DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?
Hubbard: It all started with a single question: “Can chicks DJ?” That question wasn’t just a passing thought—it sparked something in me. I dove in headfirst, learning the craft from those who came before me. Over the years, I’ve been lucky to have incredible mentors and coaches who’ve shared their wisdom and guided me at every step of the journey. Each time I hit a milestone, I make it a priority to surround myself with people who inspire me to push further and dream bigger.

As I grew, I realized this wasn’t just about playing music. It was about creating space for others—especially women—to step into the spotlight and thrive. Scaling Our DJ Rocks was driven by that passion: to show that women can carve out a successful career in music while staying true to themselves.

Today, DJing isn’t just my craft; it’s my mission. It’s about creating unforgettable moments and empowering others to do the same. Every time I see another woman step into the booth with confidence, I’m reminded why I started—and why I keep going.

DJ LIFE: What is the most important life lesson you have gained from your experience as a DJ?
Hubbard: Lead with love, stay authentic, and never stop learning. Being a DJ has shown me the incredible power of connecting with people on a deeper level, whether through music or shared moments. It’s taught me that growth often requires letting go of what no longer serves you, creating space for something even greater to flourish.

Above all, it’s proven that I can create a career doing what I love—in music. That realization has been life-changing. Whether I’m behind the booth with Our DJ Rocks or writing and performing songs as kristin lee music, every note, every lyric, and every beat is part of a much bigger story. My journey as a DJ gave me the confidence to explore being a country singer, reminding me that dreams evolve, and when you show up with heart and hard work, anything is possible.
