The newly-released 10-track LP is a thematic creation that effortlessly fuses dubstep, metal, and melody – keeping quality at the forefront.
Available today (Fri., May 30), Australian DJ/producer PhaseOne returns with TERRANOVA, his long-awaited sophomore album and an ambitious leap forward in both sound and storytelling. Known for his crushing hybrid of metal and dubstep, PhaseOne doesn’t just raise the bar – he tears it out of the ground.
Opening with the epic title track “TERRANOVA,” the album sets the tone with a haunting monologue voiced by PhaseOne’s wife as Mother Nature. It’s a chilling prelude to a story-driven album where each track plays like a chapter. “SOS” with Make Them Suffer channels visceral rage with melodic breakdowns, while “Pulse” featuring Banks Arcade ignites the senses with industrial fire. “Divide” featuring Micah Martin and Intervals strikes a perfect emotional balance – anthemic yet fierce.
“Writing my sophomore album has been a true endeavor, especially following the success of my debut,” PhaseOne shares. “It took over a year to complete, with personal challenges and creative hurdles along the way, but I’m incredibly proud of the result. It’s more melodic than I expected, but still unmistakably a PhaseOne record.” – PhaseOne
More than a collection of heavy-hitting tracks, TERRANOVA is a deeply thematic, cinematic journey exploring the destruction of earth and its eventual rebirth through soaring sonics and vivid visuals. What makes TERRANOVA so compelling is the diversity of its collaborations. Drum & bass duo Flowidus and MC Dread bring momentum on “Reset,” while “RedSky” (with Future Static) and “Lullaby” (with HVDES) reveal the album’s melodic, haunting side. “Shadows” featuring SCRO closes the record with a dramatic, shadowy energy. Across ten tracks, the album builds a narrative arc from creation to ruin and finally, to a golden, post-human rebirth which is visualized by the evolving artwork across singles and the album cover itself.
Hailing from Sydney, PhaseOne’s genre-defying blend of bass and metal has earned him millions of streams, chart-topping releases, and a global fanbase. His music has been described as “a symphony of filth,” which serves as a fitting phrase for a producer who fuses brutal drops with guitar-driven chaos. His rise to prominence has been marked by electrifying sets at top-tier festivals like Tomorrowland, EDC, Rampage, and Lost Lands, as well as support from heavyweights like Skrillex, ILLENIUM, Excision, and Slander.
“Each track has structure—verses, choruses, solos—and incredible vocal toplines. That’s something I feel has been missing in today’s dubstep scene. I wanted to bring that back, while still pushing forward. I know some people might expect more, but I didn’t want to dilute the experience. Every track had to stand out and hold its weight.” – PhaseOne
