This week’s DJ LIFE Mobile Monday DJ spotlight shines on Lance George a/k/a DJ LG, based out of Chicago, Illinois.
Being a mobile DJ means more than just playing music – it’s about adaptability, building a brand, and creating unique, unforgettable moments for each crowd. For DJ LG, Lance George, based out of Chicago, that journey started over a decade ago in his church and has since evolved into a thriving full-time career spanning private events, high schools, college gigs, and nightclubs nationwide. His ability to blend technical skill with personal flair has made him one of the most in-demand mobile DJs on the circuit today.
Spinning anywhere from 150 to 200 gigs a year, DJ LG’s schedule is stacked, but his passion for the craft hasn’t faded. Whether he’s DJing in Las Vegas, San Diego, or Atlantic City, he brings professionalism, personality, and energy to every set. Armed with a reliable Rev7 setup, QSC speakers, and Chauvet lighting, LG continues to build his business, expand his reach, and stay grounded in the power of music and connection.
When DJ LIFE spoke with DJ LG regarding all things mobile DJ, here’s how it went down…
DJ LIFE: How did you get started as a DJ?
DJ LG: I started off in my church about 14 years ago as a youth group DJ and then expanded off to DJing high schools and my college and now traveling the country and being able to play different events and clubs.
DJ LIFE: What does being a mobile DJ mean to you?
DJ LG: A mobile DJ to me means someone that can have freedom and flexibility of bringing the party anywhere, adding your personal touch and building your own brand and identity and business and bring people together at each event individually because every private event and crowd is different.
DJ LIFE: Can you tell us about your current DJ setup?
DJ LG: My current DJ setup is a Rev7 with Chauvet moving heads for lights and QSC tops and subs.
DJ LIFE: What would your perfect or dream setup look like?
DJ LG: My dream setup would be CDJs or a Performer with RCF line array and upgraded Chauvet moving heads.
DJ LIFE: Do you have any favorite or new gear that you’re currently using?
DJ LG: New gear I really want is the Rane Performer to upgrade from the Rev7.
DJ LIFE: What are some of the biggest pros and cons of being a mobile DJ?
DJ LG: The biggest pro about being a mobile DJ is it pays more than clubs and bars, and each event is unique in itself. Every client is special, and they want each experience to be different from the last. Con is sometimes you get clients that aren’t grateful or even some venues the load-ins are terrible.
DJ LIFE: Do you have any DJ-related pet peeves?
DJ LG: I don’t like people having phones in my face, talking in my ear while I have headphones in, or even when someone comes up and tells me “play this song it will make people dance better trust me.”
DJ LIFE: How has being a DJ impacted your personal/family life?
DJ LG: There are times I have missed tons of events or special moments I could not be part of because of DJ scheduling.
DJ LIFE: What is the most important life lesson you have gained from your experience as a DJ?
DJ LG: Networking! It’s never about what you know, it’s always who you know. I am grateful for the people in my life and tons of awesome people I’ve met. I could have never met some of the greatest people or artists I have worked with—from Mell Starr to Bad Boy Bill, to Terry Hunter and Sugar Hill Gang and Laidback Luke.
DJ LIFE: What can you share with us about your experiences DJing in the club circuit?
DJ LG: Clubs are way different than mobile gigs, but you meet tons of people and celebrities and sometimes end up DJing some cool gigs!
DJ LIFE: How many gigs do you typically play in a year?
DJ LG: Between 150–200+ gigs a year. Some weeks I DJ Sunday–Monday and have multiple gigs in a day.
DJ LIFE: Which cities and countries do you tend to play?
DJ LG: I play in Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, Atlantic City.
