This week’s Mobile Monday DJ Spotlight shines on Esther Anaya from Colombia. DJ LIFE caught up with her between gigs and making new music to discuss what being a mobile DJ means to her, go-to gear, performing for the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium, and more. When we sat down with Esther Anaya, it went down a little something like this…
DJ LIFE: What does being a Mobile DJ mean to you?
Esther Anaya: I’ve always considered myself a very versatile musician, from playing the violin, DJing, singing and producing, I like to transcribe that in the way of performance and creating an experience in different environments. From performing in clubs and festivals to sporting events in stadiums and arenas, I enjoy every moment of it. It requires a lot of creativity and thinking outside the box and I love to challenge myself to become better and create a unique experience for my audience and fans. Touring is one of my favorite parts of being an artist, and sporting events in particular are a unique opportunity to showcase my talents and technique to a highly diverse crowd. I love when my music resonates to all ages and this gives it a chance to do so.
DJ LIFE: What can you share with us about your preferred or perfect DJ setup?
Anaya: I can tell you that I love the large stage. The big stage allows me to bring elements which further elevate my show such as surprise, guest artists, and dancers amongst other creative elements. If you think main stage of a major music festival or front and center in the stadium or arena, that is my dream scenario as an artist. I go from DJ to singing and playing the violin simultaneously, and I like to compliment those elements that take my show to the next level. Technically, four Pioneer DJ CDJ’s, a violin, pedal, and drum pad is my ideal setup.
DJ LIFE: Do you have any favorite/go-to or new gear that you’ve been utilizing lately?
Anaya: Some new gear that I’m excited to introduce to my sets is the Pioneer DJ RMX-1000 remix station. This new hardware is great for artists who like to customize their sets and remix live, making their sound more unique while elevating their skills.
DJ LIFE: Tell us some more about DJing for the Chargers…
Anaya: I absolutely love the Chargers, I’m a true fan. The energy in SoFi stadium with the Chargers is always electric. I’m in charge of a pregame set during warm-ups and first contact to the fans, to hits throughout the game to highlight moments. It’s my job to make sure that whatever is happening throughout the game on the field, the fans are musically entertained and engaged.
DJ LIFE: Do you have a fun or crazy DJ experience or story you can share with us?
One recent incredible experience was during the Chargers draft day at SoFi Stadium, where I had the opportunity to share the stage and perform with the legendary Snoop Dogg. My stage set up was centerfield whereas I got to curate my own show with dancers, and close out the show with a dynamic performance by Snoop. This was my first experience working with the Chargers and the NFL brand, which I remain very grateful for. Coincidentally Snoop and I released a song together called BAYC, just one week prior to our Chargers performance. You can find that track in any of the stores or on Spotify.
DJ LIFE: Additionally, what can you tell us about your newly dropped song?
Anaya: “Higher Self” is my latest track and it is uniquely special to me. It reminds me of the process I went through leaving the leaving version of myself and connecting with my higher self. Musically, for many years, I was trying to fit in with what others wanted me to create. Getting out of my comfort zone and walking the extra mile, and connecting with my spiritual side allowed me to tap into my higher self. This means giving my audience the best of who I am. It wasn’t easy but I enjoyed the process. This high energy club track with future rave influence will make you dance and sing along, and will remind you of your potential to reach the best version of who you are.
